Betting AFL Semifinals Top Matches

The Aussie Football League has been fun to follow all season long, and we are now in the semi final portion of the season.

This league does the postseason a bit differently as there are actually still six teams remaining.

There are two semifinal games taking place this weekend, and those winners are going to play teams that have already advanced.

Each matchup set to take place this weekend should be a great battle, and it’s going to be fun to follow.

Here is a look at each matchup and the betting picks that should be made.

Writer’s Picks for Betting AFL Semifinals

Port Adelaide Power vs. Hawthorn Hawks (-8.5)

Hawthorn is coming into this game with a ton of confidence, and that is going to be something to monitor ahead of this game.

This has been a remarkable season for the Hawks, and they are the kind of team that looks to be playing their best at the right time.

Port Adelaide will simply be trying to play the role of spoiler in this game, and they want to slow the game down in a big way.

That’s not really going to work well for the Power as they just don’t have the talent in this one.

This is a matchup that could get out of hand in a hurry, and that’s something to keep in mind as you bet on the Hawks at -8.5.

GWS Giants -4.5 vs. Brisbane Lions

The GWS Giants continue to be a team to monitor when looking at the AFL this season, but they came up just a bit short against the Sydney Swans last round.

This is a team that has been great all season long, and they are now hoping to take the next step.

Brisbane is good enough to keep this game close for a while, but they just haven’t been able to beat the best teams this year.

Looking at the odds is a good forecast for this matchup, and you will want to bet on the GWS Giants at -4.5 in this matchup.

Odds to Win Grand Final

Now that there are just six teams left standing to win the championship, the betting odds have really changed.

The two teams that are off this weekend are clearly in a better position to win, but some of the semifinal teams are also in the mix as well.

The Sydney Swans are still the clear betting favorites at +206 to win the grand finals, and they are good enough to get this job done.

The Geelong Cats are also already into the next round, and they have odds sitting at +300 to win the grand final.

The Hawthorn Hawks and GWS Giants are big favorites to win in the semifinals, and they are also still in the mix to win the grand final.

Hawthorn has odds sitting at +550, while the GWS Giants are at +600.

Brisbane (+650) could still make a run in this event, while the Port Adelaide Power (+1575) still have a lot to prove if they want to win the title.

The Demons and Blues have already played a pair of slobber-knocker matches this season. During the first meetings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Round 12, Melbourne ground out a 61-44 victory. In the Round 22 rematch, Carlton scored a narrow 60-56 win. Carlton is the hottest team in the league, having won 10 of 11 games.

The Blues will have to play against Melbourne without Harry McKay, who has a concussion. Carlton’s Jack Martin is at the Tribunal Tuesday night, hoping to avoid a suspension.

Melbourne had a large inside 50 advantage during its loss to Collingwood in the qualification final last week but couldn’t score enough to top the minor premiership-winning Magpies.

The Blues have been excellent at getting possession this season. Carlton led the AFL by winning the contested ball by 10.1 per game. Melbourne was one of the few teams to challenge the Blues in this area, winning the contested ball contest in each of the team’s matchups.

The over/under for this match has been set at 155.5 points.

Port Adelaide at GWS

AFL Odds: Port Adelaide -9.5; GWS +9.5 / Port Adelaide -188; GWS +119 / O/U 175.5

The Power were the best team at scoring from the center bounce during the regular season. Port Adelaide didn’t show any of that spark during its qualifying final. The Power fell behind early and took a 123-75 beatdown from Brisbane.

GWS has been an efficient team away from home this season. The Giants earned a league-high eight road wins this season. Toby Greene has been GWS’ most impactful scorer away from home, registering 25 goals during the Giants’ eight road wins.

Port Adelaide picked up a big 136-85 win over GWS during the regular season. The Power’s victory was an important one. Prior to the win over the Giants, Port Adelaide has lost four straight.

The Power struggled down the stretch this season, losing five of their final eight games. Port Adelaide has plenty of scoring depth to snap out of its current slumber. The Power has three 30-goal scorers. Jeremy Finlayson leads the team with 38 goals but was shut out in the qualification final last week.

Todd Marshall 34 goals and Sam Powell-Pepper 31 have each contributed two goals last week. Green has scored at an incredible clip for GWS this season. He has tallied 61 goals. He has tallied at least one goal in the Giants’ last eight matches.

The over/under for this match has been set at 175.5 points.

Previous Betting News

With the 2020 AFL season steamrolling into its quarterfinal round, it’s time to take a look at this weekend’s quickly approaching matches. With four teams remaining in the chase to claim this season’s AFL Championship title, let’s find out where the best Australian Football betting value lies in the two seminal clashes that will take place beginning on Friday, Oct. 9, along with their AFL odds.

AFL 2020 Semifinals Predictions Take Center Stage!

Richmond Tigers Vs St Kilda Saints

Richmond was on the wrong end of a humbling 69-54 road loss against Brisbane in their Round 1 qualifying final matchup on Friday. The Tigers got a good effort from midfielder Dion Prestia the last time out and they will get a boost from the return of forward Tom Lynch for this matchup. The Tigers had won five straight until losing to the Lions.

St Kilda got past the Western Bulldogs 67-64 in a tight affair on Friday, but the Saints has also dropped two of their last five games while falling to Melbourne in Round 14 and West Coast in Round 17. The bad news is that the Saints will be without Paddy Ryder who is out for the season with a hamstring injury, as well as instrumental backman Jake Carlisle who has left the hub to be with his partner for the birth of their child. Ben Long will also miss this affair because of suspension

The last time these two teams met in June, St Kilda recorded an emphatic 93-67 blowout win, but I don’t think that’s going to be the case this time around as I expect a focused Richmond squad to get the narrow win.

While St Kilda has the slightly better offense, Richmond gave up 123 fewer points than the Saints during the regular season and I believe the Tigers’ superior defense will serve them well in this showdown.

Pick: Richmond 71 St Kilda 62

Geelong Cats Vs Collingwood Magpies

Geelong is in the semis despite falling to minor premiership-winning Port Adelaide 58-42 in their Round 1 qualifying matchup on Thursday. Collingwood got past West Coast 76-75 in a thriller after dropping two of their final three regular season contests. While Geelong is statistically better at both ends of the field in this matchup, the Cats have lost two of their last three games while Collingwood has gone a polar opposite 2-1 over their last three. The Magpies beat the Cats 57-35 in Round 7 despite being on the road in that contest and I believe the Pies are offering some outstanding value in this rematch affair. I like Collingwood to get it done in this one as a value-packed +120 underdog!

Pick: Collingwood 62 Geelong 57
