If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, both the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons would be playing in the postseason. These two potential playoff contenders will square off in AT&T Stadium on Sunday, as the Dallas Cowboys will host the Atlanta Falcons.
The 4-4 Falcons have overcome a rough start and have snuck into the playoff conversation. The Dallas Cowboys have looked like the class of the NFC East this year, and barring a catastrophic event; they should make the playoffs. With that in mind, let’s take a look at our NFL Betting analysis for the upcoming match between the Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL Betting Preview for Atlanta Falcons vs Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys Betting Analysis
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league. With Dak Prescott leading the way, the Cowboys can put up points in bunches. Although they had a slip-up last week, we still think that Dallas is one of the best teams in the NFC.
Prescott has thrown for over 2000 yards while missing some game action. He has thrown 15 touchdown passes with just six interceptions. Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Dalton Schultz have been the beneficiaries of Prescott’s stellar passing game.
We also can’t forget Zeke Elliott, who has had a quiet year but could break out at any time.
The Cowboys’ defense was thought to be one of the worst defenses in the league prior to the season. However, new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has turned things around, and the Cowboys now have a defense that is one of the better ones in the NFC. Treyvon Diggs has made a huge difference in the secondary, and Randy Gregory and Micah Parsons have put a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Atlanta Falcons Betting Analysis
Coming off of a 27-25 upset of the New Orleans Saints last week, the Atlanta Falcons are flying high. Matt Ryan has had an impressive start to the season, throwing for over 2000 yards with 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
Much of this has been done without top receiver Calvin Ridley who is taking time off to deal with personal issues. Rookie tight end Kyle Pitts has stepped up his game in Ridley’s absence. Cordarrelle Patterson has also been a huge weapon in both the rushing and passing game for the Falcons.
Defensively, the Falcons still have some struggles, but they have been better than advertised this season. We’re still not really confident in their defense being able to make key stops, but they have been proving people wrong all season.
Prediction
The Dallas Cowboys are nine-point favorites to beat the Atlanta Falcons. Dallas will have the home-field advantage, as the game is being played in “Jerry World.”
The Cowboys are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games. That number bodes well for the Cowboys’ chances, but Atlanta’s betting numbers look good too.
The Falcons are 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 road games. They are also 4-1 against the spread in their last five contests. Neither team has a clear-cut advantage when looking at the numbers.
We like the Cowboys to win the game outright, but we’re not confident that they’ll cover the nine-point spread. We are going to take the Falcons and the points in this one.
