AFL Betting – Round 13 Odds & Picks for August 22 and 23

Written by on August 21, 2020

Okay MyBookie AFL betting buffs, with the final week of the 2020 AFL regular season here, it’s time to take a look at who’s in action and which teams are offering the best value against their Australian Rules Football betting odds. To that end, I’ve highlighted three intriguing Week 13 matchups that all look like they’re offering some excellent betting value against their AFL odds.

AFL Odds and Picks for Round 13 August 22 & 23 Matches

Port Adelaide Power (9-3-0) vs Hawthorn Hawks (4-7-0)

  • When: Saturday, August 22 at 1:35 AM
  • Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

Port Adelaide is sitting atop the AFL Ladder with 826 points scored and 648 points allowed. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Power had their three-game winning streak emphatically snapped in their utterly embarrassing 91-31 road blowout loss against Geelong on Friday. Port Adelaide has dropped two of their last five including another humbling loss against St. Kilda (73-44) in Week 8. Hawthorn is in 16th place in the 18-team AFL ladder with 613 points scored and 743 points allowed defensively. The Hawks have lost two straight and six of their last seven including a discouraging 81-49 road loss against West Coast on Sunday.

There’s really no sense in beating around the bush with my pick on this Week 13 pairing. Port Adelaide is desperate to get back in the win column as they look to finish first in the standings while Hawthorn has absolutely nothing to play for except pride. Port Adelaide has scored 83 points or more in two of their last four games and the Power will get the easy win in their regular season finale.

Adelaide Crows (0-12-0) vs Geelong Cats (8-4-0)

  • Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
  • When: Saturday, August 22 at 10:05 PM

Yes, Adelaide has yet to win a single game this season as they sit in last place with a league-low 542 points scored and a league-high 990 points allowed, but there’s still hope the Crows can get the huge upset in this one right? Uh…no. There’s not. Geelong is sitting in third place in the AFL standings with 888 points scored and 721 points allowed. The Cats have won three straight and four of five and come into this affair off a stunning 91-31 blowout win over first place Port Adelaide on Friday. Now, with a chance to finish atop the AFL ladder with a win in Week 13 and a loss by Port Adelaide, there’s absolutely no way Geelong loses this matchup – and there’s no spread big enough to back Adelaide!

Brisbane Lions (9-3-0) vs St. Kilda Saints (8-4-0)

  • Where: Gabba, Brisbane
  • When: Sunday, August 23 at 12:35 AM

Brisbane is tied with Port Adelaide for first place in the AFL ladder with nine wins heading into Week 13. The Lions have scored 853 points while allowing 721 points defensively. Brisbane has won two straight and comes into this affair off a hard-fought 53-52 road win over North Melbourne on Friday. St. Kilda is sitting in fifth place in the AFL standings with 850 points scored and 734 points allowed. The Saints have won five of their lasts ix games and come into this matchup fresh off a convincing 68-33 win over Essendon on Sunday.

While St. Kilda is playing well and Brisbane looked lethargic at best last weekend, I like the Lions to get it done in this matchup. Brisbane needs a victory in this contest in order to challenge for a first place finish and they’ll get it although I’m expecting this one to be a knock-down brawl for it all.
