The 2024 Australian Open has been full of surprises but, ultimately, the top players have shined brightest down under and are deservedly among the last players left standing. Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed and defending champion, punched her ticket to the women’s final on Thursday as did 12th seed Qinwen Zheng, who beat Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska. The final four in the men’s draw, meanwhile, features four of the top six seeds.
We’ve seen some incredible tennis at the 2024 Australian Open and the overnight matches on Tuesday/Wednesday were no different as the four semi-finals in the men’s and women’s draws are now set. Let’s get right into it with a quick recap of yesterday’s action while looking ahead to the four semi-final matches.
Let’s check out some of the other highlights of the event up to the moment and Australian Open betting odds plus an analysis for the more exciting clashes in the Semifinals.

2024 Australian Open | 112th edition of the Australian Open
Men’s and Women’s Semifinal: 11:00 AM / 6:30 PM
Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Day 12 Recap of the Women’s Semifinals
The women took center stage at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday in Australia. In the first of two semi-finals, Sabalenka secured retribution over American Coco Gauff, beating her in straight sets 7-6 2, 6-4. Sabalenka, who lost to Gauff in the finals of the 2023 U.S. Open, had four aces in the match, won an impressive 71 percent of points on first serve, and was 4-of-10 in breakpoint opportunities. She won 82 points compared to Gauff’s 68.
Zheng, with incredible support from Chinese fans in attendance, put away Yastremska 6-4, 6-4 in the second semi-final to reach her first career grand slam final. The 21-year-old Chinese player has had an incredibly favorable draw as she hasn’t had to play an opponent ranked inside the top-50. She’ll be in tough against Sabalenka, who won their first and only meeting 6-1, 6-4 at last year’s U.S. Open.
Day 11 Recap of the Men’s and Women’s Quarterfinals
In the women’s draw, 23-year-old Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska is into the semi-finals after a 6-3, 6-4 win over 19-year-old Czech player Linda Noskova. Yastremska is only the second female qualifier to make a grand slam semi-final in the Open Era. She has won eight consecutive matches and been on court for nearly 14 hours, including qualifying matches. She’ll take on Qinwen Zheng in the second of two women’s semi-finals. Zheng, the 12th seed, beat Anna Kalinskaya 6-7 4 , 6-3, 6-1.
Daniil Medvedev beat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 4 , 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the first of two quarter-finals in the men’s draw. It was the second five set match for the Russian, who said he felt "physically destroyed" after the match. Alexander Zverev upset world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz 6-1, 6-3, 6-7 2 , 6-4 in the other quarter-final. He’ll play Medvedev for the 19th time in Friday’s semi-final.
Semifinal Betting Previews
Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner
AO Lines: Novak Djokovic -230; Jannik Sinner +165
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner will play the first of two semi-final matches in the men’s draw Friday in Australia. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. ET Thursday. Djokovic may be the betting favorite, but Sinner has performed better through five matches in Melbourne and is perhaps the player with the best chance of beating the 10-time Australian Open champion, as indicated by the outright odds.
Sinner is 2-1 in his last three matches against Djokovic, having beaten him at the Davis Cup and in the round robin at the Nitto ATP Finals. Djokovic always seems to rise to the occasion, however, so Sinner will be in tough to advance to his first grand slam final. This one

Daniil Medvedev vs. Alexander Zverev
AO Lines: Daniil Medvedev -155; Alexander Zverev +125
There’s perhaps no rivalry greater in men’s tennis than Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, at least based on past competition. These two players are meeting for the 19th time in their careers in the second of two Australian Open semi-finals, scheduled to begin at 3:30 a.m. ET Friday. Medvedev is 11-7 in those matches and went 5-1 against the former Olympic gold medalist in 2023, although Zverev was still somewhat tentative on the court after recovering from a major ankle injury.
Medvedev, a two-time Australian Open finalist, should have the advantage here, but this could be a quick one as both players come into the match having been on court more than 16 hours. They’ve both played gruelling five-set matches, so it’ll be interesting to see who has more left in the tank.

Coco Gauff vs. Aryna Sabalenka
AO Lines: Coco Gauff +135 vs. Aryna Sabalenka -190
Aryna Sabalenka is the defending Australian Open champion and has done nothing this year to suggest she won’t repeat as champion. She has yet to drop a set through five matches and has only lost 16 games. She beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 32 and is coming off of a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova. Coco Gauff, meanwhile, is on a 10-match winning streak after winning the ASB Classic earlier this month.
Gauff beat Sabalenka in the 2023 U.S. Open final to win her first grand slam, overcoming a 1-0 set deficit. She’s 4-2 in six career matches against Sabalenka.

MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game
Qinwen Zheng vs. Dayana Yastremska
AO Lines: Qinwen Zheng -215 vs. Dayana Yastremska +160
There’s no history between Zheng and Yastremska, so this one could be tough to predict. Yastremska is battle tested, having beaten three top-30 opponents en route to the semifinal, but has also played eight matches, including qualifiers, and said after her quarter-final victory that she felt "super tired." She has a little more than 24 hours to recover and face Zheng, who is a lot more rested but hasn’t really been tested yet.
Each of Zheng’s five victories have come against opponents ranked outside of the top-50, so it’ll be interesting to see how the hard-serving Chinese player performs against a player with so much momentum on her side.

Jannik Sinner vs. Novak Djokovic
AO Lines: Jannik Sinner +165 vs. Novak Djokovic -225
It’s incredibly tough to bet against Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, but the 10-time champion has looked a little off through five matches and is battling a nagging wrist injury. Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, is perhaps the player with the best chance of beating him. He has two wins over Djokovic in recent months at the Davis Cup and Nitto ATP Finals and has yet to lose a set in Melbourne.

Daniil Medvedev vs. Alexander Zverev
AO Lines: Daniil Medvedev -160 vs. Alexander Zverev +120
This is another match with upset potential as Medvedev looked visibly fatigued during his quarter-final match and Zverev is coming off of a huge win over Alcaraz. Medvedev is 11-7 in 18 career meetings between the two players, including 5-1 in 2023, but they’re tied 4-4 in eight outdoor hard court matches.

2023 Australian Open Predictions & Betting Opportunities for Day 12
Previous Betting News
Day 12 of the Australian Open features the two men’s semifinals, with action coming in the main night session. The No. 1 ranking in the world is on the line this weekend, with both Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas able to take the ranking away from injured Carlos Alcaraz, who withdrew from the first grand slam of the season.
Action at Melbourne Park will come in the early hours of the morning U.S. time on Friday, prime time in Australia. The semifinals also feature the first American at the Australian Open final four in 14 years as Tommy Paul takes on Djokovic as a big underdog. Paul is the only one of the four remaining that hasn’t played in a grand slam semifinal, while Karen Khachanov is aiming for his first final. Let’s have a look at the odds favorites to win their semifinal matchup so you can bet against their Australian Open Odds.
2023 Australian Open Predictions & Betting Opportunities for Day 12 | Tennis Odds
Updated Winners Odds
As the only player left with a slam title, and 21 of those on his resume, No. 4 Novak Djokovic is an overwhelming favorite to win this weekend. MyBookie has Djokovic at -526 to tie Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam wins and collect a record 10th Australian Open title.
Despite being the best-seeded player left at No. 3, Tsitsipas is +380 to win his first Grand Slam title. Khachanov is +1450 to win it all, and Paul has the worst odds at +2400.
While Djokovic and Paul have never met, the 21-time champion is 10-2 against Tsitsipas and 8-1 against Khachanov. He has won eight straight against Tsitsipas since 2019 and seven straight against Khachanov dating back to a 2018 loss.
Djokovic has never lost after the quarters at Melbourne Park, with a combined 18-0 record in semifinals and finals.
Tsitsipas Looking to Break Through
Making the semifinals hasn’t been the issue for Tsitsipas, however, he is 1-4 in his career in Grand Slam semis, including a 0-3 mark at the Australian Open. The Greek native fell to Rafael Nadal in 2019, then lost to Daniil Medvedev in both 2021 and 2022. His lone semifinal win came at the 2021 French Open, where he lost to Djokovic in the finals.
The No. 3 seed hasn’t been tested much at this tournament, with four 3-set sweeps thus far. The only win that went past three sets was a 5-set win over No. 15 Jannik Sinner in the round of 16. MyBookie has Tsitsipas at -255 to win his semifinal match again Khachanov and reach his second-ever Grand Slam final.
Khachanov (+193) is having a great run over the last six months, with a trip to the U.S. Open semifinal in September and another run here in Australia. The semifinal at the U.S. Open was the first of his career, and he lost in four sets to Casper Ruud. With big serves and groundstrokes, Khachanov has lost just one set in this tournament, to No. 16 Frances Tiafoe in the third round.
Tsitsipas has dominated Khachanov in their prior meetings, going 5-0 overall, 4-0 on hard courts. They last met on clay at the 2022 Rome Masters, and two of the five matches have gone three sets. This should be a highly competitive match, but look for Tsitsipas to win in four or five sets.
Djokovic In Line for History
This is the true David v. Goliath match on the tennis courts. Paul has never been past the fourth round in any slam, and his unseeded run to the semifinals has included two wins over seeded players, and those were No. 24 and 30. Paul has just one career title in any professional tournament, at the 2021 Stockholm Open.
On the other hand, Djokovic has won 92 ATP titles with 21 Grand Slam titles, second only to Nadal’s 22. Djokovic is 32-11 in his career in semifinals, including eight straight wins and 17 in a row not on clay. He hasn’t lost at the Australian Open since the fourth round of the 2018 tournament when he was seeded 14th.
Djokovic is -2272 at MyBookie, with Paul at +890 to move to the finals. No American has made the Australian Open finals since Andre Agassi won the tournament in 2003. Paul has already broken some barriers over the last two weeks, but beating Djokovic and making the finals might be too much to ask.
These two have never met in an official match. Djokovic has dropped just one set so far in Melbourne this year, and he steamrolled No. 5. Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. Look for a repeat performance in the semis, and getting Djokovic at -230 to win 3-0 is the best way to bet this match.

2023 Australian Open Predictions & Betting Opportunities for Day 11
Previous Betting News
For the first 10 days of the Australian Open, the courts have been shared by singles players in both the men’s and women’s draws. That changes for the final four days as each gender gets their own days. On day 11, Wednesday in the U.S. and Thursday in Melbourne, the women take center stage with the two semifinals as the highlight matches of the day. Let’s have a look at the betting favorites to win their semifinal game so you can bet against their Australian Open lines.
2023 Australian Open Predictions & Betting Opportunities for Day 11 | Tennis Odds
Sabalenka Unblemished Thus Far
Before the quarterfinals, Aryna Sabalenka was the favorite to win the Australian Open at +230. After the quarterfinals, she is now at +100 to lift the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup given to the first grand slam winner of the season.
The Belarusian, seeded No. 5, is 0-3 in her career in grand slam semifinals. She lost in the 2021 Wimbledon semifinals to Karolina Pliskova, in the 2021 U.S. Open to Leylah Fernandez, and in the 2022 U.S. Open to Iga Swiatek.
Sabalenka won her quarterfinal 6-3, 6-2, and she hasn’t lost a set yet at Melbourne Park this year. She is -450 in the semifinal match against Polish journeywoman Magda Linette (+285), who had never been past the third round in a slam before this tournament.
Sabalenka is 3-0 in her career in grand slam quarterfinals, with two wins in the U.S. Open and one at Wimbledon. Vekic lost in the quarters in the 2019 U.S. Open, and this is only her second career quarterfinal.
Linette came into this Australian Open with a career record of 3-6 in the event and an overall mark of 18-29 in the four grand slams. The last 10 days, she has wins over No. 16 Anett Kontaveit, No. 19 Ekaterina Alexandrova, No. 4 Caroline Garcia, and No. 30 Karolina Pliskova. She has dropped just one set along the way, to Kontaveit, and upset Pliskova 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
Sabalenka has won both previous meetings, in China in 2019 and at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Neither match was close, with Linette winning a total of seven games in the four sets. Sabalenka is a great returner, and it will take a miracle for Linette to pull off the upset in this match and move to the final. If looking to lower the odds, take Sabalenka in straight sets.
Rybakina Favored in Showdown
The semifinal at the top of the bracket is expected to be the most competitive of the Day 11 matches. No. 22 Elena Rybakina is -235 as she faces No. 24 Victoria Azarenka in a battle of former Grand Slam champions.
Rybakina won Wimbledon last summer in her first slam past the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Azarenka (+185) has won titles at Melbourne Park before, both in 2012 and 2013. She has a 5-3 career record in grand slam semifinals but has only played in one since 2013, a win at the 2020 U.S. Open.
Rybakina has been dominant in the Australian Open. She knocked off the pre-tournament favorite and World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Rybakina took out No. 17 seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-4 in the quarters, her third straight win against a better seed.
Azarenka is battle-tested in her career, and this is her best run at Melbourne Park in a decade. She knocked off No. 10 Madison Keys in three sets in the third round and toppled No. 8 Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-1 in the quarters.
It will be tough for Azarenka to handle Rybakina’s power. She couldn’t at the Indian Wells tournament last March as Rybakina cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win in their only previous meeting. Azarenka must use her baseline power coupled with veteran experience and craftiness to outlast Rybakina in the semifinals.
Unlike the other semifinal, this one goes three sets. But Rybakina ends Azarenka’s run and moves to her second grand slam final in the last seven months.

Roger Federer vs Novak Djokovic
- 2020 Australian Open Odds: Djokovic -833 / Federer +466
So far, so good for top seed Novak Djokovic. Djokovic handled Milos Raonic 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in the quarterfinals. Before beating Raonic, Djokovic sent Diego Shwartzman packing 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Roger Federer has also played well. FedEx got past Tenny Sandgren 6-3, 2-6, 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 in his quarterfinals match.
In the last matchup between these two, Federer came out ahead 6-4, 6-3. That was the Nitto ATP Finals. At the 2019 Wimbledon Finals, Djokovic came out ahead after a legendary 8-set marathon. Does that mean Federer has a shot to upset Djokovic in the semifinals?
Yes, Roger can beat Novak in this. But he won’t. Federer is 38-years-old. He’s played way too many sets during this tournament to challenge the best player in the world. Rogers has played 17 sets in the last 3 matches. He played 6 sets in the win over Sandgren. That’s too much tennis. Djokovic should beat Federer in straight sets.
Tennis Betting Pick: Novak Djokovic
Dominic Thiem vs Alexander Zverev
- 2020 Australian Open Odds: Thiem -196 / Zverev +140
Dominic Thiem upset Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals. Thiem provided an excellent performance. He beat Rafa 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-6 (8-6). We wrote that Thiem had a shot because he had beaten Nadal in the past. The big question is whether he can keep it going versus a surging Alexander Zverev.
The 22-year-old German player got past Stanislas Wawrinka 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. This feels like Zverev’s time. He’s always had the talent. Alexander has failed to live up to that talent, though. Maybe, he lives up it at the 2020 Australian Open? He’s certainly worth backing at +140. Thiem had to work hard to knock out Rafa while Zverev has 2 wins over Thiem in 8 tries. It’s Alexander’s time. He won’t disappoint.
Tennis Betting Pick: Alexander Zverev

Ashleigh Barty vs Sofia Kenin
- 2020 Australian Open Odds: Kenin +255 / Barty -322
Barty has lost just 2 sets during the tournament. She needed an extra set to beat Petra Kvitova in the first set of her quarterfinals victory. But Ashleigh came out ahead 8-6 in the extra set. Does Sofia Kenin have any shot against the top seed in the semifinals?
Kenin handled Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4. The 21-year-old American has played lights out. Before knocking out Jabeur, she knocked out Cori Gauff in Round 4. Kenin doesn’t know she’s supposed to lose to Barty. Also, Barty’s Australian. She might play nervously in this match while Kenin should play relaxed. Back Sofia to pull off the upset.
Tennis Betting Pick: Sofia Kenin
Simona Halep vs Garbine Muguruza
- 2020 Australian Open Odds: Muguruza +125 / Halep -169
Garbine Muguruza has played as well as any tennis player left standing at the 2020 Australian Open. She beat 5-seed Elina Svitolina 6-1, 6-2 in the third round. Garbine followed that excellent performance up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Kiki Bertens in Round 4. In the quarterfinals, she beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets. Muguruza has a massive shot to upset Simona Halep in the semis.
But Halep has played just as well as Muguruza has. In fact, she’s played better. Simona Halep hasn’t lost a set since the opening round. Starting with Harriet Dart in Round 2, Halep has won 8 straight sets. She beat Yulia Putintseva 6-1, 6-4 in Round 3. Anett Kontaviet had no shot against Simona in the quarterfinals. Halep dominated Kontaviet 6-1, 6-1.
Simona is playing too well to lose this matchup. Halep made the Australian Open Finals in 2018. Last year, she didn’t perform that well. She’ll make amends in 2020. Simona Halep beats Garbine Muguruza at the Australian Open Semifinals.Tennis Betting Pick: Simona Halep
2019 Australian Open Men’s Singles Semifinals Preview
Previous Betting News
That was some 2019 Australian Open Quarterfinals. On the Men’s Singles side, Novak Djokovic beat Kei Nishikori. Djokovic moves to the semifinals where he’ll battle Lucas Pouille, an upset winner over Milos Raonic in the quarterfinals.
In the other Australian Open Men’s Singles semi, the great Rafael Nadal beat Frances Tiafoe to set up a battle with Stefanos Tsitsipas, a winner over Roberto Batista Agut in the quarters. Check out analysis and tennis odds for Djokovic vs Pouille and Tsitsipas vs Nadal.
2019 Australian Open Men’s Singles Semifinals Preview
Novak Djokovic vs Lucas Pouille
- When: Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 7:05 am ET
- 2019 Australian Open Odds: Djokovic -1780 / Pouille +990
Ranked 31st in the world, Pouille was magnificent in the quarterfinals against heavily favored Raonic. Milos went off at more than -600 while Pouille offered odds higher than +400. He jumped on Raonic in the first set, winning 7-6 (7-4). From then, it was all over for the favored player. Does Pouille have a shot at upsetting the great Novak Djokovic on Thursday?
Nope. Although Pouille played well enough to beat Raonic, he struggled in the match. Raonic forced 4 sets. 2 of the sets had to go into tiebreaker sets. Pouille should be tired. Even if he went into this match fresh, he’d have trouble versus the number 1 ranked player on the ATP.
Novak Djokovic beats players like Pouille with one eye closed. Unless Djoker’s not 100%, he’ll get the job done on Thursday.
2019 Australian Open Mens Semifinals Pick: Novak Djokovic
Stefanos Tsitsipas +455 vs Rafael Nadal -610
- When: 7:00 pm ET
- 2019 Australian Open Odds: Tsitsipas +455 / Nadal -610
Ranked number 15, Stefanos Tsitsipas has arguably been the most impressive tennis player on either the men’s or women’s sides during the Australian Open. Tsitsipas had to beat three ranked opponents just to make it to the semis.
He took down 19 Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4. Just in the quarterfinals, he beat 22 Roberto Batista Agut 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). But although beating Agut was impressive, it wasn’t nearly as impressive as taking down Roger Federer 6-7 (11-13), 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Beating a legend like Federer gives Tsitsipas a shot against Nadal.
Rafa hasn’t lost a set yet during the Australian Open, though. He’s also only gone to a single tiebreaker set. Tsitsipas has a shot. However, we should expect way higher odds than +455 before biting.
2019 Australian Open Mens Semifinals Pick: Rafael Nadal
2019 Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals Preview
Previous Betting News
Fresh off a victory against the greatest women’s tennis player in history, Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova must now battle 2018 U.S. Open Champion Naomi Osaka. Doesn’t seem fair for Pliskova, but you’ve got to step it up to win major tennis championships like the Australian Open.
In the other Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinal, Danielle Rose Collins hopes to pull off the upset over Petra Kvitova. Kvitova, like Pliskova and Osaka, is one of the top women’s tennis players in the world. Does Collins have any shot? Check out analysis and tennis odds for both Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals!
2019 Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals Preview
Petra Kvitova -435 vs Danielle Rose Collins +335
- When: Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2019. 10:05 pm ET
- 2019 Australian Open Odds: Kvitova -435 / Collins +335
For a while during the Australian Open, Collins looked like the woman to beat. She took down Sachia Vickery 6-3, 7-5 before beating 19 Carolina Garcia 6-3, 6-2. After beating Garcia, Collins let it be known that she had a shot at winning the trophy.
She dominated 2 Angelique Kerber 6-0, 6-2. Kerber could only muster 2 wins, much less a set, versus the scorching Collins. But, then, in the quarterfinals, Danielle struggled against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Collins could only beat her after 3 sets and she lost the first set 2-6.
Petra Kvitova hasn’t run into a single road block on her way to the Australian Open Semis. She’s dominated every opponent she’s faced. In the 10 sets she’s played, she’s only lost more than 2 games in 4 of those. The single knock’s that she’s only beaten a single ranked opponent during the tournament.
That’s not much of a knock because Collins isn’t ranked. Kvitova makes quick work of Danielle.
Australian Open Semifinals Pick: Petra Kvitova
Karolina Pliskova +130 vs Naomi Osaka -150
- When: 11:35 pm ET
- 2019 Australian Open Odds: Pliskova +130 / Naomi Osaka -150
Serena Williams was up 5-1 before a called foot fault caused her to implode. Let’s not pretend that Pliskova had nothing to do with the great win, though. Karolina still had to come back down 1-5. Not only that, but Pliskova beat Williams 6-4 in the first set.
While Serena definitely imploded, it’s hard to see Osaka doing anything other than calmly playing great tennis on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The U.S. Open champ disposed of 6 Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-1. She didn’t give Svitolina a break. What’s scary is that it was Osaka’s best performance during the tournament.
Although it won’t be easy, Osaka’s the bet. She’ll beat Pliskova in a hard fought 3 sets to put the Japanese player in a position to win her second straight major title this weekend.
Australian Open Semifinals Pick: Naomi Osaka

The first tennis major of the year is drawing to a close, as we are now down to the final four in both the men’s and women’s tournament. We will focus on the men in another piece, but for now, let’s concentrate on the Australian Open Women Semifinals. The feeling was that the ladies tournament at this year’s AO would be a little wider due to the fact that Serena Williams would not be able to play. We have seen some surprises along the way, but we still have a shot at seeing the #1 and #2 seed play in the final.
The two semi-finals will be played in the early hours of Thursday morning, US time, so let’s take a closer look at the WTA betting value for both matches.

Halep came into the 2018 Australian Open as the number one seed, with many seeing her as the most likely to win with Serena Williams sitting the tournament out. Halep has seen her game get better with each passing round in this tournament and has only dropped one set thus. That dropped set came in the third round against Lauren Davis, where she had to come from a set down to eventually get the win via an epic final set that ended 15-13.
Since that scare, Halep has been unstoppable, blowing past Osaka and #6 seeded Pliskova without really breaking a sweat. Halep has 16 career title wins, so she knows how to get the job done, which is why she would come in as the Australian Open Women Semifinals betting favorite.
Angelique Kerber made a great start to the tournament, going through the first 3 rounds without dropping a set. The scare for Kerber came in her quarter-final match against Su-Wei Hsieh, where she had to come back from a set down to move on.
Kerber got her groove back in the semi-final, getting past Madison Keys, #17 seeded according to the WTA Rankings while dropping just 3 games in a one-sided affair. The 30-year old German has 11 career titles to her name.
Elise Mertens vs. Caroline Wozniacki (#2)
Elise Mertens Card
- Age: 22 years
- Turned pro: 2013
- Height: 179 cm
- Weight: 67 kg
- Playing hand: Right-handed
- Prize money: $845,390 USD
Caroline Wozniacki Card
- Age: 27 years
- Turned pro: 2005
- Height: 178 cm
- Weight: 63 kg
- Playing hand: Right-handed
- Prize money: $26,856,094 USD
Mertens is a surprise entry into the final 4, as she is the only unseeded player to make it to this point in the Australian Open. She is also the only one of the semi-final players to have made it to this point without dropping a single set. She has taken down a pair of seeded players en route to the final four, with her latest conquest being a very one-sided win over #4 seeded Elina Svitolina in the quarter-final, where she only dropped 4 games.
At 22, Mertens is basically in the early stages of her career, but she already has a pair of career wins, including one earlier this year.
Of the 4 women to get to this stage of the tournament, Caroline Wozniacki has had the toughest path, as she has had a pair of games go the distance. Strangely enough, the two matches that went the full three sets came against unseeded opponents, with the latest being her semi-final win over Carla Suarez Navarro.
That said, Wozniacki is also the most decorated player in the final 4, winning 27 career singles titles. She should be the Australian Open Women Semifinals betting favorite, but as we have already said, she has had some difficulties against unseeded opponents to this point.
