Formula E Mexico City E-Prix Betting Analysis: Top Drivers for the Weekend

The 2023 Formula E season gets underway this weekend in Mexico City, which is a bit of a change form what we are used to. Over the last few years, it has been Diriyah that has hosted the first couple of races of the season, with a trip to Mexico following that, but the script has been flipped. The reality is that the location doesn’t really matter, as all the drivers are concerned about is getting the new season off to a positive start. Of course, the championship can’t be won or lost in the opening week, but a solid run can build some early momentum that could help in a title run. Let’s now take a look at some drivers who might well be in the hunt in Mexico City so you can place your bets against the Formula E Odds.

Stoffel Vandoorne

Vandoorne comes into the new season with a massive target on his back, as he is the man that every driver will be looking to take down after he won the World Championship last season. It was a major victory for Vandoorne, but rather than settling in with Mercedes to take a run at a repeat, he jumped ship and will be racing with DS Penske this time around. We will need to wait and see if that proves to be a smart move or not. Vandoorne started the season slowly last year, so he will be looking for a better start, which will mean needing to be a whole lot better than he has previously been in Mexico City.

Mitch Evans

There are going to be a lot of fans who have Vandoorne in as the favorite to repeat as champion, but he will have some strong opposition. Perhaps the strongest of the rest of the pack is Mitch Evans, as he has steadily been improving in his time in Formula-E, with his 2nd place overall finish in 2022 his best yet. The question now is whether he can go one better. He did take the checkered flag in Mexico City a couple of years back, so he is definitely worth a look.

Edoardo Mortara

Things could have been very different for Mortara last season if he has not been forced to retire in back-to-back races in the early part of the season. That put him behind the 8-ball early, but that he was able to come back and finish 3rd overall in the driver standings tells you just how good he is. Mortara has now finished in the top 3 in back-to-back seasons and is a legitimate threat to win it all this time around. In his previous 3 runs in Mexico City, he landed in the top 5 twice.

Jean-Eric Vergne

What we have here is a 2-time former Formula-E champion, and while he has gone 3 straight seasons without a championship, he is definitely still one to watch in 2023. Vergne started strong last year, but he had a problematic second half of the season that dropped him out of the title race and left him sitting 4th overall. He has been on the podium twice in Mexico City, so expect him to be in the mix once again this weekend.
