We’ve had great races, an amazing non-points event, point deductions, team suspensions, and a thrilling end to the Indianapolis 500.

My Grand Prix at Road America Analysis
If you haven’t been paying attention, perhaps it’s time to start checking in on the action, which continues this weekend in Wisconsin with the IndyCar Grand Prix at Road America. The great news is that we are still basically in the very early stages of the 2024 season, so we can expect more twists and turns to come over the coming weeks and months. With all of that said, let’s check out the current top drivers and their chances of winning this coming Sunday, with this race set to start at 3:30 PM EST.
^Scott Dixon
At this stage of the proceedings, should we even be surprised anymore that Scott Dixon is once again sitting atop the driver standings. Just when you get people talking about his age and that the end may be near for his racing career, Dixon finds a way to silence everyone. After a great 3rd place run at the Indianapolis 500, Dixon took to the streets of Detroit and delivered a winning performance, his second of the season, in the last race on the schedule. He now heads to Wisconsin as one of the favorites to win again, even though his last win on this track came in 2020.

Alex Palou
With 2 championship titles in the last 3 seasons, the simple fact of the matter is that you can never really count Palou out of any race. He will, though, be looking to bounce back after a poor showing in Detroit, where he finished 16th overall. That was his worst run in quite some time, so it’s probably more than fair to suggest that he will be looking to make amends with a strong showing at Road America. This one could also be a sign of things to come, as Palou has won this race each time he has won the IndyCar Championship.
^Will Power
Last season was a rough one for Power, as it was the first time in 17 seasons that he failed to win a single race. That trend appears to be continuing this year, but on a positive note, he has already matched the number of podium finishes (3) that he had all last season. That is good enough to have him in 3rd overall, even after a 10-point penalty for a team issue that affected his vehicle. He ran 3rd in this race in 2021 but failed to crack the top 10 in each of the last 2 seasons.
^Pato O’Ward
One of the best things you can do is get the season off to a winning start, which is exactly what O’Ward did with a victory in St. Petersburg in the season opener. On the flipside, that type of start can also lead to higher expectations that are often hard to live up to. That is where O’Ward is at right now, as he has only been on the podium once since that win. To be fair, that 2nd place run came in the Indianapolis 500, a sure sign that you should not sleep on this driver. O’Ward was on the podium in this race last season, so perhaps a repeat is coming.
