It’s a good weekend to be a fan of Bellator, as we have not one, but two events set to go over the next couple of days. The Friday night event will serve to whet the appetite for fight fans, with Bellator 279, which will go off on Saturday night, the main course. There are only 4 fights on the main card at Bellator 279, but when you consider that 2 of those bouts are title fights, you get the idea why this one is such a big deal. The first of the 2 big fights is for the Interim Bantamweight Championship, while the headline event is a rematch for the women’s Featherweight Championship. There may only be 4 fights, but we have a lot to break down along with the Bellator Odds, so let’s get right to it.
Bellator 279 Betting Preview | MMA Analysis
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (-330) Vs Justine Kish (+265)
As mentioned, we will be closing out the main card with a women’s fight, so it makes sense to bookend it with the ladies opening the night with a Flyweight bout. It will be interesting to see how Macfarlane bounces back after taking the first loss of her pro career and falling to 11-1 in the process. She is going against Kish, who is in dire need of a win after dropping 3 in a row to fall to 7-5. This looks like a matchup designed to get Macfarlane back in the win column, which I think she does.
Kyoji Horiguchi (-250) Vs Patchy Mix (+200)
What we have here is the Bantamweight Tournament Quarterfinals, so while it falls early in the main card, it is still an important bout for both fighters. Horiguchi has an impressive 29-4 record, but he is on a run that has seen him lose 2 of his last 3 fights. Mix has only lost once in his pro career, with his overall record now sitting at 15-1. Only one of these men can move on, and while Horiguchi is not in great form, I still think he gets the job done.
Juan Archuleta (+215) Vs Raufeon Stots (-265)
Next up is the co-main event, with these fighters looking to get their hands on the Interim Bantamweight Championship. Archuleta is 25-3 and a formidable opponent, but 2 of his 3 losses have come during his last 4 fights. There are no such issues for Stots, who has remained unbeaten since back in 2017. This has all the makings of a fantastic fight, which I think will go the distance. Let’s give the nod to Stots here.
Cris Cyborg (-805) Vs Arlene Blencowe (+555)
We head into the main event of the night, with Cris Cyborg once again putting her Featherweight title on the line. It did not take Cyborg long to make in impact in Bellator after jumping ship from the UFC. She comes in as the defending champion and unbeaten at this level. Blencowe is 15-8 overall and had bounced back with a pair of wins following her loss to Cyborg last time out. It took 2 rounds for Cyborg to beat Blencowe last time and I expect more of the same in this one.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
