How to Bet Blue Jays at Yankees MLB Odds & TV Info

Why Bet on Toronto?

The Jays routed the Yankees in Game 1 of the series on Monday 8-0 for their fifth straight win. Superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 3-for-4 and hit his 40th homer of the year. He and his Hall of Famer father joined Cecil and Prince Fielder as the second father-son duo to hit 40 homers. Guerrero finished with three hits, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 15 games.

Guerrero also joined Shohei Ohtani and Salvador Perez with 40 homers. He’s also first in the majors with his .321 average and 105 runs scored and fourth with his 98 RBI. Marcus Semien hit a solo homer in the first and Toronto’s sixth grand slam of the season in the ninth. He has five homers in his last five games and a career-high 37 on the year.

However, big-ticket free-agent outfielder George Springer is hurt again. Springer was removed for a pinch-hitter after fouling a ball off his left knee in his fourth plate appearance. After a Grade 1 left knee sprain kept Springer on the shelf for just over two weeks in August, the 31-year-old had returned as a designated hitter in each of his first seven starts back from the injured list. He also missed a huge chunk of time early in the season.

It’s lefty Steven Matz (10-7) on the mound here. Matz threw five innings of two-run ball last Wednesday against the Orioles. The 30-year-old matched his season high with four walks, two of which led to the only runs scored against him in a troublesome second inning. Matz has allowed just six earned runs over his last six starts, though a lack of support has limited him to a 2-1 record during that span. Matz has a 3.80 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 116:36 K:BB across 123 innings this season.

Matz faced the Yankees on May 25 in the Bronx. He was terrific in striking out 10 batters across 6 2/3 frames of one-run ball. His best pitch was his sinker, which produced a 43 percent CSW. Matz almost got through seven scoreless innings, but Clint Frazier doubled with two outs and Kyle Higashioka singled him in on the southpaw’s 112 pitch of the night, knocking him out of the game.

Over 8 career games (6 starts) against the Yankees, he owns a 2-3 record with a 5.77 ERA.

Why Bet on New York?

The Yankees have now lost three straight and seven of nine following Monday’s defeat. Prior to this stretch, they had their first 13-game winning streak since 1961. The trade for Joey Gallo has not worked out. He struck out all four times up against the Blue Jays on Monday. That’s 61 strikeouts versus 16 hits in his time with the Yankees. He’s at .130/.291/.325 in 35 games for his new team, so he may get a couple of days off.

Even with Monday’s loss, the Yankees are 40-28 at Yankee Stadium this season. They need one more win at Yankee Stadium to clinch their 30th straight winning season at home (since 1992). That is the Majors’ longest current streak and the longest streak by any team since a Major League-record 47-year streak for the Yankees from 1918-64. New York is 17-5 in its past 22 at home.

It’s ace and Cy Young betting favorite Gerrit Cole (14-6, 2.73 ERA) on the mound here. He was spectacular last time out, striking out 15 while limiting the Angels to one run and four hits over seven innings in the Yankees’ 4-1 win last Wednesday. Cole induced 32 swings and misses, his regular-season career high. The 15 strikeouts, one short of his career high, tied him with the New York Mets’ Jacob deGrom for the most strikeouts through seven innings of a game by any pitcher this season.

Cole became just the eighth Yankees pitcher in franchise history to record 15K in a game and his 215K through his first 25 starts are the most by any Yankees pitcher in his first 25 starts of a season, surpassing David Cone’s 207K in 1997.  Cole has the second-best strikeout rate (35.4%) and best walk rate (5.3%) of his career. He’s allowed a total of two runs in four starts since returning from the IL last month.

Cole is 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA in three starts vs. Toronto this year.
