For fans of Max Verstappen, these are fun times, as he has been about as dominant as it gets in Formula 1 over the last few years.
Will we see the standing tighten up a little more or will Verstappen get back wo winning ways?

My 2024 F1 Canadian Grand Prix Analysis
That said, I think it’s also fair to suggest that fans of F1 in general would love to see a championship battle like the one we got between Verstappen and Hamilton when the current champ picks up his first world title. It’s uncertain whether we will get that this season, although things are a little tighter at the top after the Monaco Grand Prix, which we will get into in a moment. This weekend, Formula 1 is back in North America for the running of the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this coming Sunday. Let’s see what the bookies think, odds and betting predictions.
^Max Verstappen F1 Pick -216
It is always more than a little surprising to see any grand prix come to an end without Max Verstappen standing on the podium, yet that is exactly what happened in Monaco. The defending champion finished 6th in that race, and while some will certainly see that as a surprise, the Monaco Grand Prix is always a very different type of challenge for drivers and one where upsets can happen. Even with that outcome, Verstappen still has a comfortable lead at the top of the driver standings, sitting on 169 points, which has him 29 points clear of the closest challenger. The question now is whether he can bounce back with a win in Canada. Given that he has won there in each of the last 2 seasons, it would be a real surprise not to see the three-peat.
^Charles Leclerc F1 Pick +430
We are not about to get all in a tizzy about the championship battle being on, but it was cool to see Leclerc take the checkered flag in Monaco and cut into the lead at the top of the driver standings. As good as that win was, he needs to continue picking up wins if we are to see this thing go down to the wire. Given that he has been no worse than 4th in every race this season, Leclerc is certainly a solid pick to finish in the top 3, but I think he is a much riskier bet if you are looking at playing the overall winner in Canada. Maybe the boost from winning in Monaco will drive him on this weekend.
^Other Drivers to Consider
Over the last 4 races on the F1 calendar, Lando Norris (+550) has been on the podium 3 times, including picking up a win in Miami. He has been incredibly consistent and looks to be on the brink of a breakout season. Why not take a look at home as a podium finisher this weekend.
One driver that is not getting much love from the bookies is Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez (+3300). Perez just signed a contract extension with Red Bull Racing this week and has said that this is where he wants to spend the remainder of his career. The Canadian Grand Prix has not been kind to him over the years, but might he be inspired by that new contract this weekend?

2023 Canadian Grand Prix
For a while, it looked as though we might be in for a great battle for the Formula 1 World Championship, but over the last few races, we have seen a gap start to open at the top, as 2-time defending champion Max Verstappen is once again starting to open up a lead. There are, though, still plenty of races to come this season, but the chasing pack needs to start winning some races if we are to see the championship race stay close until the end of the season. The future starts this weekend with the Canadian Grand Prix, and while we are always unbiased in out picks, it would be good to see one of the chasing drivers get a win to keep things interesting. Let’s take a look at the current F1 odds.

Max Verstappen
Like we said at the top of this piece, Verstappen is beginning to assert his dominance once again, as he has now won each of the last 3 races. The driver standings, which were tight up until a few weeks ago, now look very different, with Verstappen opening up a 53-point lead at the top. He has now won 5 of the 7 races this season, finishing 2nd in the other two, so you have to feel that the chances of Verstappen going into a slump seem pretty slim at this point. Verstappen won in Canada last season, so the chances of a repeat seem pretty good.
Sergio Perez
With Perez winning a couple of races in the early part of the season, the feeling was that he might be able to press his Red Bull Racing teammate all the way to the end. There were some concerns as to whether he could maintain that early pace, and those concerns have proven to be true. Perez ended up finishing 16th in Monaco, which he followed with a 4th place finish in the last race, both of which Verstappen won to increase his lead at the top. Perez was forced to retire in Canada last season, but I think he could be top 3 this weekend.
Lewis Hamilton
It would seem that the days of Hamilton challenging for a World Championship are in the past. As he is now on an extended run where he has failed to win a race. Hamilton, for the first time in his career, failed to win a race in a full season in 2022. He is in the same position this season, failing to pick up a win, but he does have a couple of podium finishes this year, including a 2nd place finish in Spain in the previous grand prix. Hamilton finished in 3rd in Canada last season, so a podium finish might be the way to play here.
Fernando Alonso
It has been a great return to form in 2023 for former World Champion Alonso, although that form has not translated into wins just yet. Alonso, though, has been on the podium in 5 of the 7 races this season, so while he is certainly a longshot to win this weekend, he is not a bad bet for a top 3 finish. Alonso was top 10 in Canada last season, but given his form, I believe we can expect better this time around.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
