We are just 3 races into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, but we are already seeing some familiar faces stake their claim for the top spot in the driver standings. Kyle Larson is back on top and looking like a man ready to defend his crown, but it is still way to early to suggest that we might be looking at a repeat of the season he delivered in 2021. There are a lot of great drivers hot on his heels, and we could well see the standings change after the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at the Phoenix Raceway this coming Sunday. Larson is in among the NASCAR Betting favorites to win this one, too, but there are some other drivers worth looking at, so let’s break it down.
NASCAR Cup Series Betting Preview for Ruoff Mortgage 500 Race
Kyle Larson (+350)
Like we already mentioned, Larson is out to another fast start as he looks to claim his second straight Cup Series crown. This is a long season, though, so expecting him to maintain his early pace might be a little too much to ask. That said, there is certainly reason to believe that Larson could follow up his win from last weekend with another one in Phoenix. This is a track that he really seems to enjoy, as he always seems to be up among the leaders in the desert, including winning there to secure the championship last season. Until his form cools off, he is always going to be in among the favorites.
Kyle Busch (+700)
Since ending the 2019 season as the Cup Series champion, Bush has cooled off a little, proving how hard it is to win it all in this sport. Busch will be once again looking to make the playoffs and go deeper than he has in the last couple of seasons, and he is off to a good start already. He finished 6th at Daytona to start the season, and while he slipped a little in Week 2, he was back in the top 10 again last weekend. This Phoenix track is one where he has had some success in the past, including a couple of wins in his last 5 runs there. Busch has to be considered a threat here.
Martin Truex Jr. (+700)
He may now be in his 40’s but you have to say that Martin Truex Jr. is showing no sign of slowing down. Since winning the Cup Series in 2017, Truex Jr. has been consistently solid, finishing 2nd overall in 3 of the 4 seasons following his title. He has been steady, if not spectacular, in the early going, and finally cracked the top 10 in Vegas last weekend. Given what he did at Phoenix last season, it might be smart to throw a few bucks at him this weekend. He had 2 runs at Phoenix last season, winning one and finishing 2nd in the other.
Denny Hamlin (+800)
Yes, it is still very early in the year, but there have to be some concerns about the way Hamlin has started the 2022 season. His best finish thus far has been a 15th in the second race of the season, but given his past performances in Phoenix, there is reason to believe that this could be a breakout week. He won there on 2019 and was on the podium in both 2021 races. Well worth a look at these odds.
