Another week in the books in the Cup Series and another new leader at the top of the driver standings, with Chase Elliott back in the top spot.
This has been the way things have gone all season, so you have to wonder how many more lead changes we will see before the field is cut down for the Round of 16 in the playoffs.

My Cup Series Analysis
We won’t have to wait much longer to see those potential lead changes, as there are now only 5 races remaining in the regular season.
The next race on the schedule comes this Sunday, with the Cup Series drivers heading to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400.
This is one of the more iconic tracks on the NASCAR schedule, so this race will certainly get a lot of attention.
Let’s look at the current odds for this race.
^Denny Hamlin NASCAR betting Pick +380
Over the past few years, this event has been held on the road course, but this weekend it’s back to the oval for the first time since 2020.
That might be good news for Denny Hamlin, given that he has had a couple of top 5 finishes on this track in his last 3 runs there.
That said, as much as I like to look at a driver’s history on a specific track, you also need to look at the current form.
Hamlin has been on a bit of a rough patch of late, but he may have broken out of that with a 2nd place run at Pocono last weekend.
I’m still not sure if he can repeat that. He might be worth a top 5 look.

Kyle Larson NASCAR betting Pick +600
Larson has spent a fair amount of time at the top of the driver standings this season, but he is now just a few points behind Elliott at the top.
We do have to keep in mind, though, that he has had one less race than the rest of the pack.
He has also had a rough time of it over the last couple of weeks, failing to crack the top 10 in the last 2 races.
His last 2 runs on this track have not been great, but again, those came several years ago.
Larson can never be counted out and could be a good top 3 pick this weekend.
^Ryan Blaney NASCAR betting Pick +760
After going a long stretch without a win this season, Blaney has suddenly come to life, winning twice in the last 5 races, including a checkered flag at Pocono last weekend.
He has been in the top 10 in 5 of the last 6 races, so this is a guy that is very much on an upward swing right now.
He will want to keep that rolling as he looks to move up from his current spot in 7th.
I think he is more of a top 5 pick here than a potential winner.
^Brad Keselowski NASCAR betting Pick +810
Whenever I see a driver that we haven’t discussed much this season suddenly appear among the favorites for the next race, my interest is always piqued.
Keselowski is down in 9th in the driver standings, and while he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this season, he does have a win to his name, with that one coming in Darlington.
He is also one of the few drivers who has won on this track, which makes him very dangerous.
I might just be tempted to play Keselowski to win.

2023 Verizon 200
There are a lot of races over the course of the Cup Series season, and while some are certainly more iconic than others, they are all important in their own right. Drivers don’t have to win every week to be in the playoffs, but they do need to pick up points on a consistent basis if they are to be a part of the postseason excitement. With the regular season winding down, the number of spots up for grabs is diminishing rapidly, so the pressure is rising for those drivers still sitting below the cut line. This Sunday, the Cup Series heads to the Brickyard for the Verizon 200, which is being raced on a road course. Let’s take a look at who the bookies have among the favorites to win in your NASCAR betting odds.

Martin Truex Jr.
NASCAR Betting Pick: +430
Toward the end of last season, there was talk that Truex Jr. might retore. He was coming off a disappointing season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. His decision to return is now looking like a stroke of genius, as he is sitting atop the driver standings at this late stage of the season. He is also the favorite to win on Sunday, which is perhaps not surprising when you consider that 1 of his 3 wins this season came on a road course. That said, he was not particularly good at the Brickyard in 2022, but let’s not forget that it came in the midst of a poor season by his high standards.
Tyler Reddick
NASCAR Betting Pick: +510
One thing you notice when NASCAR runs on a road course is that you often see some favorites who are not usually this high up on the bookies board. Racing on a road course requires a whole different set of skills that what we see on the traditional oval course, with some drivers simply better suited to this style of racing. Reddick is one of those guys, but he is among the favorites for a reason, as his last 2 Cup Series wins have come on a road course, including at the Brickyard in 2022.
Shane Van Gisbergen
NASCAR Betting Pick: +620
If you don’t really follow motorsports outside of NASCAR, this is a driver that you may not be too familiar with, as Van Gisbergen races with Supercars, where he has won each of the last 2 championships and is on pace for a 3rd straight. That said, he did run in the Cup Series earlier this season, taking the checkered flag on the Chicago street course. Racing so sparingly at this level makes it tough to win, but this is a guy who has proven that he is tough to beat on the road, so he might be worth a look.
Chase Elliott
NASCAR Betting Pick: +700
Earlier in this piece, we spoke a little about the pressure that drivers below the playoff cut line must be feeling right now. Chase Elliott is one of those guys, and while it is surprising to see him there, it is because he missed 7 races through injury and suspension this season. He needs a win in the worst possible way if he is to climb into the top 16. Who knows what might happen in the postseason, so getting in is critical for a driver as talented as Elliott. He has been good on road courses in the past, so I might be tempted to take a shot with him at these odds.
