Betting 2024 Vuelta a Espana

The 2024 Vuelta a Espana, the final Grand Tour cycling event of the year, heads into its final week with underdog Ben O’Conner continuing to wear the red jersey.

O’Conner leads Primoz Roglic as the cyclists put their feet to the pedal for the final stages of the race.

But although O’Conner has maintained his lead, money has poured onto Roglic to overtake the red jersey leader.

Check out final updated cycling odds for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana along with analysis.

Writer’s Picks as the Vuelta a Espana Moves On

Oddsmakers and Cycling Betting Fans Expect Primoz to Take Charge

With only 6 stages left, cycling oddsmakers and bettors have decided that Primoz Roglic has enough time to overtake O’Conner and wear the red jersey.

Roglic’s odds to win another Vuelta a Espana title dropped big time from +120 a week ago to -400 heading into the final stages.

Primoz often makes a run at the Vuelta in the final stages.

He must only overcome a minute and 3 seconds to catch O’Conner.

So it makes sense that handicappers would dump dollars onto Roglic and drive down the odds.

Ben O’Conner Offers Overlay Odds at +1200

-400, though, is risking a lot.

Roglic didn’t catch Sepp Kruss in the final stages of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana.

So risking -400 to win a few bucks on Primoz doesn’t seem like a fair bet.

If you can get +1200, and the odds may have changed since Stage 15’s completion, consider for sure.

O’Conner was supposed to give up the lead 4 stages ago.

He hasn’t.

There’s no way to know if he does in the next 6 stages, but the latest odds suggest that Ben might be good enough to hang.

Again, Roglic didn’t catch Kruss at last year’s Vuelta.

So why should we believe the gets it done this week?

Roglic and O’Conner Would Have to Bomb for Nicolau to Catch Either

Enric Mas Nicolau has had a decent Vuelta a Espana.

Nicolau is in third place and shown he’s got what it takes to, eventually, win a red jersey.

But Enric won’t wear the red jersey at this year’s Vuelta.

He’s too far behind both Roglic and O’Conner to make up enough ground in the final six stages.

Nicolau is 2 minutes and 23 seconds behind Ben O’Conner.

Something drastic would have to happen for Nicolau to win the race.

It’s not likely to happen considering O’Conner and Roglic are now fighting against each other knowing they’ve got a time advantage over the third place cyclist.

Keep tabs on Enric Mas Nicolau next season.

He appears to be a riser in cycling.

Betting 2024 Vuelta a Espana

Heading into the final couple of weeks at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana , a surprise cyclist has taken over the red jersey.

Which cyclist will wear red in the final Grand Tour cycling event of the year?

Check out updated cycling odds, analysis, and picks for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana.

Writer’s Picks as the Vuelta a Espana Moves On

Top Pick: Ben O’Conner (+200)

If you can get +200 odds on Ben O’Conner, and it may be difficult after Sunday’s stage, back him with confidence.

O’Conner wrested away the red jersey from pre Stage 1 favorite Primoz Roglic after Stage 6.

Since then, he’s worn read throughout Stages 7 through 9.

Sure, there are 12 stages left, but there doesn’t appear to be anything standing in O’Conner’s way which explains he massive drop in odds.

Unless O’Conner fumbles in some way, he should still be wearing the red jersey after Stage 21.

Second Choice: Primoz Roglic (+120)

If a cyclist does catch O’Conner, it’s likely to be Primoz Roglic.

Primoz grabbed the red jersey from Wout van Aert in Stage 4.

Roglic wore the jersey in Stage 5 before losing it to O’Conner.

The hope is that Primoz wins enough stages or at least cycles enough to close the gap on Ben.

Primoz did win Stage 8.

So if you like Roglic, know he’s got a decent shot to catch the top choice.

Third Choice: Enric Mas Nicolau (+700)

Enric Mas Nicolau is 4 minutes and 35 seconds behind O’Conner.

In cycling, a minute is a long time.

So Enric has his work cut out for him.

He could get it done, though, and there’s no arguing against the odds.

But Mas Nicolau must not only beat O’Conner, he must also beat Richard Carapaz and Primoz Roglic to get to O’Conner.

That’s a lot to ask which is why he’s third in this blog.

Top Underdog Pick: Richard Carapaz (+5000)

It’s doubtful anyone will give you 50-to-1 odds on Carapaz.

Nobody believes Carapaz keeps up the pace he’s cycled at so far in the Vuelta but 50-to-1 odds is a lot.

Right now, Carapaz is in third place, 4 minutes and 32 seconds behind O’Conner.

Richard is almost a full minute behind Primoz Roglic.

So the chances of him catching up to O’Conner aren’t great.

But if you can get close to +5000 odds, consider taking a shot.

What to Know About the Vuelta a Espana

On August 17, many of the top cyclists in the world head to Portugal and Spain for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana.

One of the Grand Tour classified cycling events on the schedule, American Sepp Struss stapes onto his bike looking to make it two straight.

Is Struss the pick to get it done?

Will Primoz Roglic win another Vuelta?

How will other contenders like Juan Ayuso perform?

Check out updated cycling odds, analysis, and picks for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana cycling race.

Writer’s Picks for the Next Vuelta a Espana

Red Jersey Winner: Juan Ayuso +600

We were ready to pull the trigger on Sepp Struss, but after a long think, it occurred to us that Struss’s COVID-19 positive almost assuredly means he lost valuable training time.

Struss had wonted to race at the Tour de France but had to sit out to due to the positive COVID-19 result.

Losing training time so close to the Vuelta is a recipe for disaster, which explains his +900 odds to repeat.

The red jersey updated pick is Juan Ayuso.

The UAE Team Emirates cyclist, the same team that Tadej Pogacar rides for, finished fourth at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana.

Ayuso took home the white jersey that goes to the top young rider.

This year Ayuso has had immense success, winning the yellow jersey and blue jersey at the Toure of the Basque Country.

The double victory carried over to a second overall at the Tirreno-Adriatico.

Ayuso is the pick.

Second:Primoz Roglic +150

Picking Primoz Roglic to win, especially since Struss almost assuredly lost training time, makes sense.

Roglic doesn’t face Remco Evenepoel, Pogacar, or Jonas Vingegaard, his top four rivals, in this.

Also, Primoz won back-to-back-to-back Vuelta a Espana’s from 2019 through 2021.

He finished third in this last year.

A bounce back victory for sure can happen and the only reason he’s second on this list is because of the odds.

Third: Enric Mas Nicolau +700

Nicolau finished second in the Vuelta in 2018, 2021, and 2022.

The Movistar Team cyclist has knocked on the door and should be primed for a nice run.

This year, Nicolau hasn’t come up big in any race.

The thinking, which makes sense, is that he’s pointed towards the Vuelta a Espana all year long.

So he’s played it smart by holding back and waiting for the Grand Tour event that he believes he can win.

At the odds, Enric Mas Nicolau is a decent play to get it done.

What to Know About the Vuelta a Espana

On August 17, many of the best cyclists on the planet head to Portugal and Spain for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana.

The Vuelta takes place about a month after the Tour de France, which at the time of this writing was Tade Pogacar’s to lose.

In 2023, American Sepp Kuss won the Vuelta a Espana.

Will Kuss defend his Grand Tour victory?

Check out more information and a top three prediction for the 2024 Vuelta a Espana so that when cycling odds land, you’re ready to make your bets.

What to Know About the Vuelta a Espana

Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel, and Jonas Vingegaard likely to skip the Vuelta a Espana.

Pogacar has said that because of the grueling Tour de France, he’s likely to take a pass on cycling at the Vuelta a Espana.

Second place Tour de France finisher Jonas Vingegaard, and third place Remco Evenepoel are also likely to skip the race.

The issue is one of timing.

The Vuelta a Espana happens pretty much right after the Tour.

Not only that, but in 2024, cyclists have the upcoming Olympics.

So if Pogacar, Vingegaard, and Evenepoel wish to participate in the Olympics, they almost assuredly have to skip the Vuelta a Espana.

Odds Change If Pogacar and Vingegaard Skip the Vuelta

If Pogacar and Vingegaard skip the Vuelta, defending champ Kuss will be the cycling odds favorite.

Even if Remco Evenepoel decides to cycle in Spain, defending champ Sepp Kuss will be the favorite.

Kuss didn’t participate in the Tour de France.

He has his eyes set on the Vuelta a Espana, which makes sense considering he won the red jersey quite easily in Spain last year.

A fresh Kuss is a good enough reason for Vingegaard and Pogacar to decide to prepare for the 2025 Cycling Season.

Sepp has gotten that good.

Writer’s Top 3 picks Based on Projected Field

Winner: Sepp Kuss

Kuss won a single stage at the Tour de France.

It happened in 2021.

Since then, he’s concentrated primarily on winning at the Vuelta a Espana.

One of the reasons is because like Jonas Vingegaard, Kuss cycles for Visma-Lease A Bike.

Vingegaard is Visma’s top Tour de France cyclists. Kuss has become their top Vuelta a Espana cyclists.

Kuss skipped the Tour to prepare for the Vuelta a Espana.

The American is going to show up big time.

Don’t be surprised when the projected cycling odds favorite gets it done for the second straight year.

Second Choice: Primoz Roglic

Like Kuss, Primoz Roglic has decided that the Tour de France is an afterthought. </p>

Roglic continues to be one of the top cyclists in the world.

But because he spends more time trying to win Grand Tour events like the Vuelta a Espana, Primoz doesn’t get the press that Vingegaard and Pogacar, Tour de France specialists, get.

Roglic won the red jersey general classification at the Vuelta a Espana in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

If Remco Evenepoel, the 2022 Vuelta winner, decides to sit out this year’s race in Spain, there’s a good chance he does, Roglic will be right there to push Kuss.

Primoz is definitely worth a look to get the win.

Third Choice: Juan Ayuso

Ayuso won this year’s Tour of the Basque Country.

He also had a decent Tour de France.

But the real reason to go with Ayuso as the third choice is because in 2023, Juan took home the white jersey at the Vuelta a Espana that goes to the races top young rider.

Any improvement at the Vuelta puts Ayuso into the Roglic and Kuss category, meaning he could win the race.

When odds land, consider a small play on Ayuso because he should offer overlay odds.
