Geek Slate vs BOOM Esports
Geek Slate enjoyed a solid start to the 2023 DPC season, with a 2-0 victory against Fnatic, who they beat on Monday. On the other side, BOOM Esports lost their 2023 DPC opener against Talon Esports (0-2) in a somewhat unexpected outcome.
BOOM were easily the best SEA Dota 2 team in 2022; however, through all the roster changes this offseason, the team lost plenty of quality. The team still has plenty of talent and should be competitive, but as seen earlier this week, BOOM will need more time to gel together.
But whether BOOM’s loss is a solid indication that they’re weaker than Geek Slate is up to debate. They had to face a very strong team in Talon Esports, who admittedly lost their 2023 DPC opener against Execration, but they’re still one of the most stacked rosters in the region.
So despite going 0-1 to kick off the year, BOOM Esports shouldn’t be written off entirely just yet. Esports betting sites have BOOM priced as favorites and Geek Slate at +110, which sounds right. But that’s only if you believe that BOOM Esports will pick themselves up and show their full potential on Friday.
At the offered betting odds, Geek Slate look far more appealing. They performed well earlier this week, and until BOOM show a bit more, we’re happy to fade them.
Prediction: Geek Slate to win
Blacklist International vs Fnatic
Blacklist International were billed as the SEA Dota 2 superteam, fielding a roster of some of the best players in the region. They’ve yet to live up to that name, but Blacklist International started the season with a W, against Bleed Esports, granted they lost one map, which isn’t the best look.
Fnatic, on the other side, had a much rougher start to the 2023 DPC. They first lost against Geek Slate (0-2) and then added another humiliating loss against Bleed Esports (0-2).
The Black & Orange are clearly struggling, which likely has to do with the lack of synergy that comes with rebuilding the roster. And while we can give them some slack for their poor showings, there weren’t many positive things to take away from their recent performances.
Fnatic are not in the best spot, but they still field solid players, so it wouldn’t be too shocking to see them bounce back. Blacklist International looked better earlier this week, but we must also acknowledge that they have played just one game so far. So it’s tough to make any conclusions.
Priced at +137, Fnatic enter this bout as the underdogs, which is fair. Even though we expect Fnatic to show a bit more as the season progresses, they’re a tough sell for this bout.
Blacklist International to win 2-0 at around +160 is a far more appealing pick, even though they showed some cracks in their match against Bleed.
Prediction: Blacklist International -1.5 maps
