Olympic Games Paris 2024: Games of the XXXIII Olympiad
August 7th – August 11th, 2024

Olympic Equestrian Expert Picks

One of the most exciting but under the radar sports at the Olympics, competitive equestrian involves three competition types: dressage, eventing and jumping.

All three competitions have two categories, individual and team.

Which nations and individual equestrian riders head into the 2024 Olympics with a shot at winning gold?

Check out predictions for the Olympic Equestrian competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

2024 Olympic Equestrian Predictions

Dressage Individual – Jessica von Bredow-Werndl

The world’s top ranked individual dressage rider, Bredow-Werndl is also the lead dressage rider for Germany, the defending champs.

Bredow-Werndl is just 38, which means she’s at the top of her game where riders continue to perform at an elevated level well into their fifties.

If Bredow-Werndl shows up in Paris with the same competitiveness she had in Tokyo, forget it.

She wins gold. Back Bredow-Werndl if oddsmakers set a line.

Dressage Team – Germany

The German National Equestrian team is not only the defending champion but also this year’s top ranked dressage squad.

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl is their top rider.

However, the team also boasts an eclectic group, including Isabell Werth.

The Germans combined with the British to win nine medals and six golds at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Germans should win at least 2 after they dominate dressage.

Eventing Individual – Boyd Martin

The American ranks third in eventing.

Eventing in equestrian combines dressage, cross-country, and show jumping.

It’s sort of like the decathlon for equestrian enthusiasts.

Martin is America’s top hope to grab a medal.

He must leapfrog Ros Canter and Oliver Townend but he can get it done.

Eventing Team – Britain

Led by the world’s top eventing rider, Great Britain looks awfully top to keep from the gold medal.

Oliver Townend isn’t alone, though.

Emily and Kitty King, Rosalind Canter, and Laura Collett will all aid Great Britain in winning eventing gold.

Collet almost died after suffering a fall in 2013.

She had be resuscitated five times and was an induced coma.

Collett bounced back at the Tokyo Olympics earning a medal while riding for Great Britain.

Jumping Individual – Ben Maher

At Tokyo, Britian’s Ben Maher won the gold medal in jumping.

Maher heads to Paris ranked second in the world behind Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann.

Beating von Eckermann won’t be easy since the top individual equestrian jumper and his nation are motivated.

But Maher has proven he steps it up at the Olympics.

So gold appears to be in his future.

Jumping Team – Great Britain

Like in eventing, Maher isn’t the only fantastic rider on Great Britain’s jumping team.

Scott Brash, Harry Charles, and Joseph Stockdale will all contribute to Britain winning gold in the jumping category.

Oddsmakers have yet to set equestrian betting lines.

When they do, make sure to consider putting money behind the teams and individuals on this list to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

2020 Tokyo Olympics: Betting Guide for Equestrian Sports

Previous Betting News

There are a lot of things to love about the Olympic Games, whether it’s cheering on your country or learning about sports that you don’t get to see on TV that often. There are certainly plenty of different sports to choose from, which means that there is a little something for everyone. For those of you who love horses, the equestrian events are sure to be appealing. At the Olympics, there are 3 distinct events in place, which are dressage, show jumping, and eventing. They are split into individual and team events, so there are definitely plenty of wagering opportunities in equestrian to choose from once the Olympics begin on Friday. Let’s take a closer look at each of the events and talk about past winners to see if we can help you pick some winners against their Olympics Betting Odds.

Equestrian Betting Guide for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Dressage

At first glance, it may not appear as though much is going on when you watch dressage, but it is in fact one of the most precise sports in the Olympics. Dressage is all about showing off the flexibility, obedience, and balance of the horse with minimal prompting from the rider. While it may not be the most exciting sport in the world, but you have to admire the amount of training it takes to get the horse to behave in such a manner.

In terms of wagering, dressage is split into individual and team events. In the individual dressage tournament, the winner has come from just 3 different countries over the last 9 Olympics. Great Britain has won the last 2, with the Dutch winning 3, and the Germans winning 4 over the course of those past 9 Olympic Games. In the team event, it has been Germany that has dominated. The Germans have won 8 of the last 9 team events, while picking up silver in the one they did not win.

Show Jumping

If you are looking for a fast-paced equestrian event, then show jumping is the way to go. Riders take their horses around a course that contains several jumps, with the fastest time winning. Knocking over a jump means time penalties, making this one of the more exciting events out there.

It has been a rider from a different country that has won each of the last 6 individual jumping events, with Great Britain winning last time out. France, Great Britain, and the United States have been the winners of the last 3 team jumping events, so no clear favorite here.

Eventing

Eventing combines three sports in one, with dressage, jumping, and cross country all included in this event. Riders and horses need to excel in all three in order to get their hands on the gold medal. There is a definite winning trend in eventing to pay attention to.

In individual eventing, it is Germany that has dominated, winning each of the last 3 Olympics. In the team eventing event, the last 4 Olympic gold medals have been split evenly between France and Germany. Of course, none of this means that either of these nations are guaranteed to win again this year, but they are worth a look.

Boxing Matches to Must Watch and Bet On the Weekend | 2020 Tokyo Olympics Betting

Olympics Boxing Events

When: Saturday, July 31 – Sunday, August 1

Olympic Women’s Boxing

Lauren Price Vs Atheyna Bylon

When: Saturday, July 31

Great Britain’s Lauren Price dominated her last opponent,  Myagmarjargal Munkhbat. All five judges scored all three rounds either 10-8 or 10-9 for Price. Like Price, Panamanian Atheyna Bylon shows 10-9 and 10-8 round scores from her latest match. This should be a dynamite fight. Bylon may have an edge. The 32-year-old is 5’ 10”.

Boxing Pick: Atheyna Bylon

Tammara Thibeault Vs Noujka Fontijn

When: Saturday, July 31

24-year-old Canadian Tammara Thibeault struggled to beat Nadezhda Ryabets in her last. Thibeault won 4 rounds to 1. But before writing off Tammara, realize that Noujka Fontijn also won her last bout 4 rounds to 1. Thibeault beat a Khazakhstan fighter. Eastern European boxers like Ryabets come from strong programs. Give Thibeault the benefit of the doubt.

Boxing Pick: Tammara Thibeault

Nesthy Petecio Vs Irma Testa

When: Saturday, July 31

In 3 fights, Italian Irma Testa has won over 14 judges to 1. Philippine boxer Nesthy Petecio is back on track after losing 2-of-5 judges in her 3-2 victory over Taipei’s Yu-Ting Lin in her second match. Petecio beat Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda 5 judges to 0 in her third bout. But Testa has lost a single judge and that was in her first fight. The Italian should get by Petecio.

Boxing Pick: Irma Nesta

Olympic Men’s Boxing

Kurt Anthony Walker Vs Duke Ragan

When: Sunday, August 1

On Sunday, it’s Ireland versus the U.S. when Walker and Ragan throw down. Kurt Anthony Walker is 9-1 with the judges in two matches. Ragan struggled in a 3-2 scorecard victory versus French fighter Samuel Kistohurry in his first match. Duke dominated tough Kazakhstan boxer Serik Temirzhanov in his second. Because of how Ragan beat Temirzhanov, he’s the play.

Boxing Pick: Duke Ragan

Oleksander Khyzhniak Vs Euri Cedeno Martinez

When: Sunday, August 1

In his first bout, Oleksander Khyzhniak showed why many consider him one of the best boxers at the 2020 Olympics. The Ukrainian beat Yuito Moriwaka 5-0. 21-year-old Euri Cedeno Martinez will be a decent boxer. But the Dominican Republic pugilist is up against it versus Khyzhniak. Expect the Ukrainian to win 5-0.

Boxing Pick: Oleksander Khyzhniak

Frazer Clark Vs Mourad Aliev

When: Sunday, August 1

Boxers based in the UK are almost always more skilled than those based in France, which is why boxing handicappers must give Frazer Clark a big shot. Ah, but Mourad Aliev is no French fighter. Aliev was born in Russia. The Frenchman learned how to fight from his father, Ozer, who fought for the U.S.S.R back in the day. Aliev gets the nod.

Boxing Pick: Mourad Aliev

Hebert Souza Vs Abilkhan Amankul

When: Sunday, August 1

Hebert Souza got lucky in his first bout. Souza bested China’s Erbieke Tuoheta 3 judges to 2. Abilkhan Amankul beat Fanat Kakhramonov 5 judges to 0. Amankul is one of those Kazakh boxers who should probably already be fighting pro.

Boxing Pick: Abilkhan Amankul

Richard Torrez Jr. Vs Dainier Pero

When: Sunday, August 1

22-year-old Torrez Jr. has the skills to be a great heavyweight. But he’s up against it versus Cuba’s Dainier Pero. The 21-year-old could challenge a few top ten ranked boxers in the heavyweight division. He might beat every pro heavyweight on the planet not named Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, or Anthony Joshua, and he’d probably have a shot against Wilder and Joshua. Torrez Jr. will put up a fight. He may win over a single judge, but that’s it.

Boxing Pick: Dainier Pero

2020 Tokyo Olympics: Boxing Betting Options for Gold Medal Matches

But Torrez Jr. must beat strong Bakhodir Jalolov. Boxing Gold Medal Matches to Must Watch and Bet On the Weekend

Olympic Boxing – Gold Medal Matches

When: Saturday, Aug. 7 – Sunday, Aug. 8

Saturday, August 7th Bouts

Galal Yafai / Carlo Paalam

The men’s flyweight gold medal is up for grabs when the Philippines Carlo Paalam takes on Great Britain’s Galal Yafai. The 28-year-old Yafai won his first bout via a referee stoppage. That’s rare at the Olympics. Since then Yafai has won 2 bouts via 3-2 scorecards and another via a 4-1 scorecard. Paalam has lost a single scorecard during the entire games. The loss happened in his first bout. Carlo is on a roll.

Boxing Pick: Carlo Paalam

Stoyka Krasteva / Buse Cakiroglu

The flyweight women’s gold medal match should be fantastic. Stoyka Krasteva dominated USA’s Virginia Fuchs in her second match. She then bounced Yuan Chang and Tsukimi Namiki. Cakiroglu has won 10 straight judges scorecards. This should go down to the wire with Bulgarian Krasteva eking out a victory over her Turkish opponent.

Boxing Pick: Stoyka Krasteva

Hebert Sousa / Oleksander Khyzhniak

Brazil battles Ukraine in the Olympic middleweight men’s boxing gold medal contest. Brazilian Hebert Sousa hasn’t dominated. He beat Erbieke Tuoheta  and Abakan Amankul 3-2. Sousa did get on track in his semifinal bout with a 4-1 victory over Gleb Bakshi. Khyzhniak struggled in the semis, beating Eumir Marcial 3-2. This should be another great fight. It’s difficult to choose which boxer has the edge. But pugilist programs in Ukraine have gotten better in recent years. So, siding with Khyzhniak makes sense.

Boxing Pick: Oleksander Khyzhniak

Hong Gu / Busenaz Surmeneli

In this Olympic gold medal women’s welterweight boxing match, Hong Gu carries China’s flag while Busenaz Surmeneli fights for Turkey. The 23-year-old Surmeneli has won all three of her bouts via 5-0 scores. Gu has also impressed. She’s lost a single judges scorecard and that was to American Oshae Jones in the semifinals. Surmeneli is fighting like a pro, though. Not only that, but Gu is 32-years-old. The younger boxer gets the nod.

Boxing Pick: Busenaz Surmeneli

Sunday, August 8th Bouts

Beatriz Ferreira / Kellie Harrington

The women’s lightweight title match pits Ireland’s Kellie Harrington against Brazil’s Beatriz Ferreira. Harrington looked unbeatable in her first couple of matches, dominating both her opponents by 5-0 scores. But in the semifinals, Kellie had to work for the 3-2 victory. The 28-year-old Ferreira is 5-0 with judges in her three bouts during the Olympics. Ferreira grabs gold.

Boxing Pick: Beatriz Ferreira

Richard Torrez Jr. / Bakhodir Jalolov

Super Heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr. hopes to parlay a gold medal victory at the Tokyo Games into a professional boxing career. Torrez Jr. has fought well during the Olympics. But on Sunday, he faces a top amateur boxer. Bakhodir Jalolov has a ton of international experience. He fought at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the Tokyo Olympics, Jalolov beat his first couple of opponents 5-0. But although Jalolov will be hard to beat, Torrez Jr. has lost a single judges scorecard during the games and that was to Cuban Dainier Pero. Torrez Jr. can make Team USA proud.

Boxing Pick: Richard Torrez Jr.
