FaZe Clan vs Complexity

FaZe Clan will kick off their BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023 campaign with a match against Complexity in what should be a fairly straightforward game for the former Major champions. Both teams enter this match following a long one-month break, which should technically favor the underdogs, who’ll enjoy an added advantage of FaZe missing rain.

Regardless, even if FaZe play at half their strength, it’s highly unlikely to see Complexity cause an upset. Once one of the top teams in the world, Complexity have been struggling with their performances over the last two years.

Their 2022 campaign was particularly disappointing, seeing how the NA squad haven’t won (nor come close to winning) a single noteworthy event. By this point, Complexity are a tier-two team, and based on their results, it’s hard to argue with that.

FaZe, on the other side, showed up big time in 2022, winning the organization’s first Major title in Antwerp. They’ve since added an IEM Cologne title, a runner-up finish at Fall Finals, and a semifinal run at World Final 2022. They choked in Rio, placing 15th-16th at the final Major of the year, but they bounced back with a solid finish to the year.

FaZe Clan have their problems and will have to play with a stand-in, but they’re still significantly stronger than Complexity, who just might be the weakest team in the tournament.

Prediction: FaZe Clan to win 2-0

Team Liquid vs OG

Team Liquid and OG will clash for the first time since December 17, when Team Liquid defeated OG 2-1 at BLAST Premier: World Final 2022. Liquid were the better team on the day, but the series was fairly close, so it’s not like we can be confident that OG will fold again.

Liqiud have had a significantly more fruitful 2022 season than OG, with a semifinal run at BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2022 and BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 grand finals appearance. On the other side, OG’s most notable accomplishment was reaching the semis of BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 and BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022.

But tournament results aside, OG have had a few solid showings, and they’ve looked good even when faced with stronger opponents. Although they’ve failed to consistently beat top-tier teams, they’ve done enough damage to be considered dangerous underdogs.

Since this is the first match for both teams since December, we have to expect a bit shakier performances on both sides, so it’s hard to put too much weight on the raw talent. Moreover, OG played well the last time they faced Liquid, and if they can emulate that performance, we’ll likely see another close series on Friday.

Prediction: Over 2.5 maps
