Team Vitality vs OG

Team Vitality and OG will clash in the BLAST Premier Fall Groups opening round on Friday, August 19, for the first time since October 2021, when Vitality won 16-9. However, that result doesn’t mean much knowing that Vitality have since made changes to its roster, as have OG, who now field four new players.

Team Vitality have recently added Lotan “Spinx” Giladi to the lineup in hopes of bouncing back from a terrible start to the season. Although Vitylita have remained one of the top CS:GO teams in the world, their success since transitioning to an international roster at the start of 2022 has been limited.

Notably, Vitality have not won a single tournament in 2022 since placing top-three at BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022 in February. However, they did well in June, when Vitality reached the finals of BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022, which remains their only notable achievement of the year.

OG are in a similar spot, having won just BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022, but they’ve done relatively well in other tournaments. Most notably, OG made the finals of SteelSeries Nova Invitational last week and reached the semi-finals of BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022 and Global Esports Tour Dubai 2022 in June.

On paper, Vitality look like a much stronger team than OG; but we don’t believe they deserve to be priced as such big favorites. Although Vitality’s ceiling is much higher, this squad has been struggling throughout the year, and the addition of Spinx won’t fix their issues – at least not immediately.

Until Vitality start showing some improvement, the best approach is to fade them when faced with a least somewhat capable team like OG.

Prediction: OG to win

Ninjas in Pyjamas vs Astralis

The Scandinavian derby sees Ninjas in Pyjamas clash with Astralis for the first time since April, when Astralis won 2-0, adding their first head-to-head victory against NiP since December (2-1). Astralis were the better team on the day, and if the past results are any indication, they should also come out ahead in this affair.

That’s a fair assessment, but Astralis are far from guaranteed to win on Friday. We have to remember that this is the first tournament after the summer break, meaning that the players have not played a single official game in over a month. As a result, the teams will be ring-rusty, which often means that anything can happen.

NiP and Astralis are priced at the same odds for this match which looks about right, but we wouldn’t back either on the moneyline market. Knowing that this should be a close affair, with no clear winner, a bet on over total rounds makes much more sense.

Alternatively, you could take Ninjas in Pyjamas to cover the 2.5-round handicap because Astralis have not been playing well ahead of the player break. But since the teams will be ring rusty, we wouldn’t put too much weight on their recent form.

Prediction: Over 27.5 rounds
