Royal Never Give Up vs. PSG Talon

  • When: Monday, October 11 – 12:00 GMT

Royal Never Give Up and PSG Talon last met at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, during the group stage, and in the semi-finals. The teams split one win apiece during the group stage; however, RNG got the better of PSG Talon in the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory.

Even though RNG proved that they were the better team in May, PSG Talon looked much stronger than expected. Now, the question is whether the teams will look as good on the big stage.

A few months have passed since the 2021 MSI, and if there is one thing we can take from the teams’ showings over that stretch is that RNG aren’t as good as they were back then. They won the 2021 LPL Spring split but couldn’t even make it into the second stage of the 2021 LPL Summer split, suggesting that RNG have lost the mojo.

PSG Talon, meanwhile, emulated their success from spring and won the PCS 2021 Summer split, with a narrow yet well-deserved 3-2 victory against Beyond gaming in the finals.

Obviously, RNG are expected to win this match since they hail from a stronger region and field much better individual talent. However, this bout will be best-of-one (Bo1), and if there is one thing we know about this format, it’s that there is no clear favorite.

Generally, you wouldn’t want to bet on heavy favorites in a Bo1 match due to the volatile nature of this format, and it doesn’t help that this will be RNG’s and PSG Talon’s first match of the 2021 LoL World Championship.

Ring rust plays a factor; however, we must also remember that PSG Talon won against RNG before.

  • Prediction: PSG Talon to win

100 Thieves vs. EDward Gaming

  • When: Monday, October 11 – 16:00 GMT

EDward Gaming are arguably the strongest team in Group B, albeit if there is one team that can cause them issues, it’s 100 Thieves. The North American representatives travel to Iceland with high hopes, albeit low expectations.

As a team from the LoL Championship Series (LCS), 100T head to 2021 LoL Worlds with the negative stigma of the NA league – the LCS teams consistently underdeliver on the international stage. However, sooner or later, one team will emerge to prove everyone wrong, and from all the teams attending this year’s World Championship, 100T have the highest chance to do so.

Obviously, a lot will have to go right for 100T to upset the LPL 2021 Summer champions, but as noted above, these opening tournament matches are often much closer than expected. Both teams have been out of action for a while now, and situations like that usually favor the underdogs.

The esports bookmakers have 100 Thieves priced as high as +240, which is a fair price on paper, but an excellent offer for this match. There are safer ways to approach betting on this game – with a +7.5 kill handicap – but we like 100 Thieves to cause an upset at better odds.

100 Thieves are still weaker, but they have solid pieces, which can do some serious damage on a good day.

  • Prediction: 100 Thieves to win
