Rogue vs MAD Lions
MAD Lions won the regular season, which is impressive, but it seemed like the only reason why MAD Lions have looked so good this season is because all other teams have underperformed. That includes Rogue, who have gone through a dry period, struggling to win even against bottom teams.
But despite their concerning results towards the end of the split, Rogue remain one of the top dogs to win the LEC trophy.
MAD Lions enter this match as the favorites, which, based on their regular-season stats, seems fair, but we feel like MAD Lions might be a bit overhyped. They haven’t shown anything spectacular, and we wouldn’t put too much weight on their wins against other LEC contenders.
That’s not to say MAD Lions aren’t capable teams, but it seemed like they were a bit lucky to face other LEC contenders just in time when they were struggling with their form. So the question is, how will MAD Lions do assuming Rogue steps up?
There is this belief that Rogue are a team that tends to choke in the playoffs, and there are results to back those claims up. Still, this is not a narrative we’re ready to follow for this prediction. These two teams are very evenly matched talent-wise, and there is no clear favorite to come out ahead.
So even though MAD Lions might come out ahead, there is a real possibility we will see all five maps played on Friday.
Prediction: MAD Lions to win 3-2
G2 Esports vs Misfits Gaming
G2 Esports enter this match as massive favorites, which makes sense since they’re the defending LEC champions and have done much better than Misfits Gaming this season. Performance figures and stats-wise, G2 Esports are a superior team, and there is very little to suggest Misfits can actually win.
Although you could argue that Misfits Gaming have done better this split compared to spring, they’re still the same team – realistically, no team in the LEC playoffs should lose to them. While a solid squad, Misfits lack star players, with Vetheo the only member of the team who you could consider to be one of the top-five in his position.
G2 Esports are an entirely different beast, with star-level players across all positions. Moreover, their mid-jungle duo is easily the best in the West, and as we know, strong mid-jungle is what wins you championships. And we haven’t even touched on the fact that caPs and Jankos are two of the best players in their respective role.
With caPs on the team alone, G2 can nullify Misfits’ strongest player, effectively leaving them with no win condition, assuming G2 don’t shoot themselves in the foot. Barring any surprises, this should be a 3-0 sweep for G2 Esports.
Prediction: G2 Esports to win 3-0
