Cloud9 vs Fnatic
Thursday, October 26th, 2023 at 3:00 EDT
Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul
Cloud9 and Fnatic are in a tough spot as they share a 1-2 record and are just one defeat away from getting eliminated from the tournament. Neither team has yet to show much in this event, and this is their last chance to do so and keep their dreams of reaching the playoffs alive.
Cloud9 have so far beaten just MAD Lions in the first round of the group stage but then lost against LNG and T1. On the other side, Fnatic started the group stage with a loss against LNG, then they defeated GAM Esports, and added another loss against Bilibili Gaming in the third round.
We haven’t seen much from either team this tournament, so it’s tough to say which of the two is in a better spot to win on Thursday. Fnatic arguably have better players, but it’s fair to say that the series will be decided very early due to how these teams like to play.
Cloud9 might have a chance to do something, assuming they get ahead early, but it all really comes down to whether Fnatic can stabilize pre-15 minutes and run away with a win through scaling.

MAD Lions vs Weibo Gaming

Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul
MAD Lions started the LoL World Championship with a humiliating loss against Cloud9, then bounced back with a win against Team BDS, and suffered another humiliating defeat against LCS’ first seed, NRG Esports.
MAD Lions have been quite a disappointment this tournament, and it’s tough to feel optimistic about their chances to defeat Weibo Gaming, which are objectively a much better team. But like MAD Lions, Weibo Gaming aren’t the most consistent team.
Weibo Gaming are 1-2 with defeats against G2 Esports and KT Rolster, while their only win came against NRG Esports, so it’s not like they’ve shown much so far. Still, they’ve looked better in their games, and unlike MAD Lions, Weibo Gaming have only lost against stronger teams.

Dplus KIA vs GAM Esports
Friday, October 27th, 2023 at 3:00 EDT
Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul
GAM Esports entered the LoL World Championship as complete outsiders, but they made it through the Play-In stage and are still holding on three rounds into the group stage. However, while GAM Esports are still alive, they’ve not looked great.
GAM’s only win of the group stage came against Team Liquid, who completely collapsed in round three. The other two games – against Gen.G and Fnatic – saw GAM struggle to accomplish much. Still, over the three games, GAM have shown that they know how to play as a unit, and that is possibly their biggest strength.
Dplus KIA have so far looked very disappointing. They lost against G2 Esports and KT, and their only win of the tournament came against Team BDS. This mainly has to do with the fact that Dplus KIA don’t play like a five-man unit, which is something GAM could look to exploit.
Dplus KIA are much stronger than GAM, but they have their weaknesses.
