Top Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Games to Wager on July 15th
MOUZ vs Astralis
MOUZ and Astralis will clash in the first round of the IEM Cologne quarter-finals in what should be an interesting affair. As the latest betting odds suggest, the teams are + evenly matched, but the bookies are giving an edge to Astralis, which makes sense.
Both teams started their IEM Cologne journey in the Play-In stage and fought their way into the playoffs, which is impressive. Astralis took down Complexity, BIG, FURIA, and Cloud9, whereas MOUZ had to make it past paiN Gaming, TYLOO, Heroic, Vitality, and Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Based on those results, MOUZ have achieved more, but we have to consider the fact that most of the top CS:GO teams underperformed in Cologne, so we would take their success with a grain of salt.
Nevertheless, seeing MOUZ make it to the playoffs is still a massive achievement for the team.
Even though Astralis and MOUZ showed enough to earn their spot in the final six, we weren’t impressed with either of them. MOUZ did take down much better teams, mainly Heroic, but it’s not like their opponents stepped up.
If we draw a line, there isn’t much to separate Astralis and MOUZ. Astralis might have a higher ceiling, but that doesn’t guarantee them success. The safest bet is over 2.5 maps, knowing that this series can easily end both ways, but if we had to pick a side, we would put out money on Astralis.
Prediction: Over 2.5 maps
Movistar Riders vs Team Liquid
Movistar Riders impressed many by making it so far in this tournament – and they deserve it. The Spanish squad first had to make it through the Play-Ins, where they defeated MIBR and Team Vitality, but they shifted into a higher gear in the group stage.
In the main event, Movistar took down G2 Esports and Vitality (again) while also stealing one map away from Natus Vincere. So even though Movistar did not establish themselves as a serious threat for the IEM Cologne title, they have been looking very sharp.
Seeing Team Liquid reach the playoffs might not be as shocking as seeing Movistar make the final six, but it’s still quite surprising. Liquid have been struggling badly this season, but they’ve found some momentum in Cologne, beating the likes of Cloud9 and FURIA in Group B.
So while we can praise Liquid for what they’ve shown, they have not achieved as much as Movistar Riders, which explains why Liquid enter this match as +110 underdogs. Whether that’s a fair price is up to debate, but given Liquid’s lack of success over the year, we find it hard to defend them.
This is another match that can easily end both ways. If Movistar continues playing the way they have been up to now, they might win even though they’re not exactly an elite-level team. Regardless, knowing Liquid, they can easily fall apart and lose, so we’ll take a swing with Movistar Riders to win 2-0!
Prediction: Movistar Riders -1.5 maps
