Belgian Grand Prix Betting Preview: Analyzing the Favorites and Their Odds

Over the last few races, we have seen some of the fun return to Formula 1, with surprise results and some driver controversy making things a good deal more interesting.

While it still certainly looks as though Max Verstappen will once again win the World Championship, he is not having it all his way in 2024, which appears to be messing with his head just a little bit.

Today’s F1 Top Favorites
1. Lando Norris | 189 points
2. Max Verstappen | 265 points
3. Oscar Piastri | 149 points
4. George Russell | 116 points
5. Lewis Hamilton | 125 points

My 2024 Belgian Grand Prix Analysis

Last weekend in Hungary, Verstappen was involved in a collision with Hamilton, with the vast majority believing that it was his fault, but Verstappen went on a rant over his headset that led to a bit of a dressing down from his crew, with one member audibly calling him “childish.”

We are interested to see how all of that will carry over into this weekend’s race, which is the Belgian Grand Prix.

Let’s take a look at the F1 odds to see what the bookies think.

Lando Norris F1 Pick +102

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, as we do have a favorite that is not Verstappen for the first time in a long time.

It is beginning to feel as though a shift is coming in F1, with many believing that McLaren will beat Red Bull Racing to the constructor’s series this season.

McLaren is still trailing at the moment, but Lando Norris, their lead driver, is showing that he might well be a future champion.

Norris picked up his first career F1 win in Miami earlier this season and has been on a tear ever since, landing on the podium in 5 of the last 7 races since that victory.

He has not been great in Belgium, but given his car and his current form, I think we can throw that start out of the window.

I think he is a definite top 3 finisher here.

Max Verstappen F1 Pick +360

These are probably the best odds you are ever going to get on Verstappen for the foreseeable future, especially if he comes out and wins this weekend.

He is now on a run of 3 straight races without a win, finishing outside the top 3 in 2 of those races, so you have to wonder if some cracks are beginning to show with the champion.

His outburst last weekend might well be a sign that he is a little rattled right now.

He does still have a 76-point lead at the top and has won this race in each of the last 3 seasons, so it would not be a surprise to see him get back to winning ways on Belgium.

Oscar Piastri F1 Pick +380

This is only the 2nd full season in F1 for Australian driver Piastri, but he is beginning to leave his mark.

He has been on the podium 3 times this season, but it was his win last week in Hungary that truly marked his arrival.

^

George Russell F1 Pick +950

After a massive win in Australia, Russell has lost some ground, putting in mediocre performances in his last 2 races.

Given his form, a top 3 pick seems like a bit of a risk.

^

Lewis Hamilton F1 Pick +990

How about Hamilton, who appears to be hitting some good form.

He won the British Grand Prix and has been on the podium in 3 of his last 4. Well worth a look as a top 3 finisher.

2023 Belgian Grand Prix

Formula 1 drivers don’t really understand the concept of taking their foot off the gas and enjoying the ride, but we have reached the point of the current F1 season where 2-time champion Max Verstappen could very easily do that if he wanted to. We will get into that in a moment when we break down his season, but there is a bigger picture to look at here. While the championship race is over, there are still several Grand Prix weekends still to come, which means betting opportunities for motor sports fans. The question here is whether to ride with Verstappen the rest of the way or look for spots where he may be vulnerable, and you can cash in on another driver. The first opportunity to do that comes this weekend with the Belgian Grand Prix, so let’s take a look to consider in your F1 betting odds.

Max Verstappen

You need only look at the odds to see how the bookies believe that Verstappen has become almost unbeatable. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who has even a passing interest in the sport given that the 2-time defending champion is head and shoulders above every other driver in Formula 1. It’s amazing enough that he has now won 7 straight races, but he has also won 9 of 11 overall this season, while finishing 2nd in the other 2 races. In fact, Red Bull Racing has made a clean sweep of the season to this point, with Sergio Perez winning the other two. It seems impossible to bet against Verstappen now, and even more so when you consider that he has won 2 in a row in Belgium.

Lando Norris

You have to dig pretty deep to try and find reasons why another driver might rise up and win a race ahead of Verstappen. Norris is in as the 2nd favorite this weekend, well behind the champ, which may come as a surprise given what he has done this season. Dig a little deeper, though, and you will see that Norris is of Belgian descent. Yes, it’s a flimsy reason to wager on a driver, but perhaps he will want to honor his Belgian mother by winning in here home country. More realistic, though, is to take Norris to land on the podium, as he has finished 2nd in each of the last 2 races and appears to be in very decent form.

Hamilton and Perez

These two drivers are very close in terms of odds, so let’s put them together and take a closer look. Hamilton is in at odds of +1225 for the Belgian, Grand Prix, as he looks to win his first race since the 2021 season. That is a huge stretch of time since his last win, and he and Mercedes now look well off the pace. Sergio Perez (+1250) has cooled off dramatically after a strong start to the season and is now very much living in the shadow of his Red Bull Racing teammate. Both Hamilton and Perez are very good drivers, but are you willing to wager on either of them beating Verstappen at this point?

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
