There are a couple of different ways to look at how Formula 1 has played out over the past decade or so. Some fans are happy to sit back and watch Lewis Hamilton on his quest for history, while others crave the days when the race for a World Championship was an exciting one that went down to the wire. For those that fall into the latter group, they are getting their wish this season. Hamilton has his nose back in front on top of the driver standings, but the gap between him and Max Verstappen is about as close as it gets. Yes, it’s a 2-horse race still, but this is much better than what we have seen in recent years, when Hamilton had the championship all but sewn up with weeks still to go in the season. There is still a lot of races to come, though, starting with the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, so let’s take a look at the current favorites along with their Formula 1 odds.
Formula 1 Betting Analysis for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton (-120)
As recently as a few weeks ago, Hamilton found himself in the rather strange position of not being the favorite for every race. After a great start to the season, where Hamilton won 3 of the first 4, he went into a slump, or at least a slump compared to what we are used to from him, that saw him lose the lead at the top of the Formula 1 driver standings. He found his way back with a win at the British Grand Prix and then followed that up with a 2nd place finish in Hungary, a run of form that moved Hamilton back to the top. Besides the current form, there is another reason why he is back in as a favorite for this race, which is because of how good he has been in Belgium. Over the last 4 races in Belgium, Hamilton has a pair of wins, as well as a pair of 2nd place finishes. You have to like him to keep rolling here.
Max Verstappen (+120)
For a long stretch of races, it was beginning to look as though this might be the season when Verstappen knocked off the King. That still might happen, but Verstappen is going to need to find a way to dig himself out of a rough couple of races. Heading into the British Grand Prix, Verstappen was on a run that had seen him win 3 in a row. That all came to an end in the UK, where he was forced to retire, followed by a disappointing 9th place run in Hungary. This might be a tough one for Verstappen, as he has yet to pick up a win in Belgium, with a pair of 3rd place finishes his best effort.
Sergio Perez & Valtteri Bottas (+1600)
If you look for a winner outside the top two drivers, these would be the guys to look at. Perez is celebrating the news that he will have another year with Red Bull coming next season, so maybe he raises his game this weekend. Bottas probably is the better option of these two guys, as he has the pedigree at this track, landing on the podium in each of his last 2 races in Belgium.
