F1 Singapore Grand Prix: Norris & Leclerc Favorites – Expert Analysis, Picks

There is no one way to win a championship, which is true across just about every sport you care to talk about.

Consistency from start to finish tends to be the most common path to ending the season as a champion, but there are also some who come from behind, getting strong in the later stages of the season.

Today’s F1 Top Favorites to bet on the Singapore GP
1. Lando Norris | 254 points
2. Charles Leclerc | 235 points

My 2024 Singapore Grand Prix Analysis

Then there are those who amass an early lead and hold on until the end, living off the points picked up in the early part of the year.

If Max Verstappen is to once again end the season as the Formula 1 champion, it looks as though he will be taking the final option we just discussed.

He has fallen off a cliff in the last couple of months, but he had amassed so many points that he might still be safe.

Verstappen will try to pad his lead in Singapore this weekend, but will he instead lose more ground? Let’s take a look at the current odds.

Lando Norris +151

If anyone can come back and steal the title away from Max Verstappen, you have to say that Lando Norris looks the most likely.

That said, he needs to start picking up wins if he is to take a serious run at closing the gap that currently sits at 59 points.

Norris has been consistent in getting into the top 5 every single race, but he needs podiums and needs to finish ahead of Verstappen in every single race remaining in the 2024 season.

He has been on the podium 3 times in the last 6 races, but he has just 1 win during that stretch.

This might be the week when he gets that win, as he finished 2nd in this race last season. I like him for the win on Sunday.

Charles Leclerc +176

Leclerc has even more work to do if he is to somehow claw his way to the top of the driver standings, as he currently sits 78 points back of Verstappen with 7 races remaining in the season.

There is time for him to close that gap, and he has been in very good form over the past month, finishing on the podium in 4 straight races, with 1 win during that stretch.

Again, he needs to turn those minor prizes into wins, starting in Singapore, where he finished 4th last season.

His current run suggests that a top 3 wager might be a solid bet.

Other Drivers to Consider in the Singapore Grand Prix Odds

In the grand scheme of things, a 9th place overall finish was a solid debut season for Oscar Piastri (+650).

Piastri started this season in similar form, but he has exploded in the second half of the season and has 2 wins in his last 5 runs.

The bookies have Carlos Sainz Jr. (+650) up among the favorites, but in my opinion, he is still very much ab long shot.

Sainz Jr. has gone 6 straight races without a podium finish, so it’s tough to think about playing him here.

Finally, we still need to talk about Max Verstappen (+1600) even though he is having car issues and seeing his lead at the top cut with each passing week.

He is still worth a look for a top 3 finish.

Max Verstappen

If you go back a couple of years to the first time that Verstappen won an F1 championship, in a controversial fashion, you see that he ended that season with 395.5 points. He went on to shatter that total last season, winning it all again and amassing 454 points. Right now, with 8 races still to come, he has 364 points, so it’ more than fair to suggest that he is going to surpass his 2022 total. Verstappen is on a run that has seen him win 10 straight races, with the odds suggesting that #11 will come this weekend in Singapore. After all, there are only 2 races he hasn’t won all year, and he finished 2nd in both of those. If you fancy betting against him, this might be the race, as he finished 7th here last year.

The Rest of the Pack

If we are to assume that Verstappen is once again going to roll to victory in Singapore, then we need to start talking about who else might land on the podium. The bookies have Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez (+870), as the 2nd favorite here, which is no real surprise when you consider that he won the 2 races where his teammate failed to take the checkered flag. Given that Perez won this race last season, you might want to consider taking him for the upset, or at least a podium finish.

It has been a staggering return to form for Fernando Alonso (+1775) this season. He won back-to-back championships in 2005 and 2006, and while he got close a couple of times after that, it did look as though time had caught up with him. He is very much a longshot to win here, but he might be worth a podium wager.

Finally, we have to take a look at Lewis Hamilton (+1775), even though his winless streak has now reached a point that is very much not what we have been used to seeing from him. More importantly, though, he is also now on a run that has seen him fail to land on the podium in 4 straight races, and when you consider that he finished 9th in Singapore last season, it would be something of a risk to throw money in his direction this weekend.
