The drama that we saw in F1 last season was always going to be a tough act to follow. Seeing the World Championship won and lost, and in the most controversial of circumstances, was the type of scenario that is usually reserved for the movie, but that is exactly how things played out. There were hopes that the rivalry between Max Verstappen, the defending champion, and Lewis Hamilton would carry over into this season, but we have seen Hamilton and team Mercedes take a backward step. In the last couple of months, it has looked as though the champ was going to cruise to another title, but things are looking a little different after the last couple of races. This weekend, the drivers will be in France for the next race, with those in the chasing pack hoping to close the gap a little further. Let’s take a look at some of the Formula 1 Betting favorites for the 2022 French Grand Prix.
F1 Betting Odds, Analysis and Prediction for the 2022 French GP Race
Max Verstappen (+110)
Last season, Verstappen won 10 races on his way to a World Championship. At the midway point of the season, he is on pace to beat that mark, as he has already logged 6 victories in 2022. That would suggest that he is a surefire bet to repeat as champion, but the race at the top of the driver standings is still very tight. Part of the issue, if you can call it that, for Verstappen is that that those 6 wins came through the opening 9 races, but he has now failed to win in the last 2. This is a situation that Verstappen, who is essentially favored to win every race, faced a couple of times last season. One of his best winning streaks actually began with a win in France, so perhaps he can repeat that and deliver the goods again on Sunday.
Charles Leclerc (+135)
You have to say that one of the surprises of the season is that we have an unexpected challenger looking to run down Verstappen. Leclerc has been steady as opposed to spectacular in his time with F1, but Ferrari are looking good, and he has reaped the benefit. He showed his intent quickly, winning 2 of the first 3 races of the season, and while he has cooled off a little, he is still just 38 points out of first. When you consider that he was forced to retire in a pair of races, that performance looks all the better. You wonder if he is ready to go on another positive run, as he won in Austria in the previous Grand Prix. Might be worth taking a shot on at these odds.
Lewis Hamilton (+770)
Given how successful Lewis Hamilton has been over the years, it has been more than a little jarring to see him underperform this season. The fact that he is rarely in among the favorites in 2022 gives you just some idea of how far he has fallen. Perhaps the most stunning thing of all is that he has failed to win a single race this season, although he does have 4 podium finishes, including in each of the last 3. Might that be a sign that he is ready for a breakthrough win in France?
