The AFC West has been the Wild, Wild, West this season, as three teams are all competing to win the title. The clear-cut favorite to win the division prior to the season was the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, the Chiefs have hit some bumps in the road this season and are currently sitting in second place in the West with a 5-4 record. Their opponent this Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders, are tied for first place in the West with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Kansas City will be making the trip to Allegiant Stadium to take on Las Vegas on Sunday Night Football. Let’s take a closer look at both team so you can bet against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs Betting Analysis
No one is really sure what has happened to the Kansas City offense this season. Patrick Mahomes and company just haven’t been able to get into a groove. Even though he still has very good statistics, as he has thrown for over 2,500 yards with 20 touchdown passes, one number really sticks out.
Unlike in years past, Mahomes has been turnover-prone this season as he has thrown ten interceptions. In Mahomes’ defense, the offense has been plagued by injuries, and his receivers have dropped a lot of passes.
While Mahomes and the offense is getting a lot of the blame for the rough start to the season, much of the problem stems from Kansas City’s poor defense. This unit played well to end last season, but they have been terrible to start this season.
They’re giving up over 380 yards per game while allowing their opponents to score 25 points per game. The defense hasn’t been able to get any stops, and Mahomes and company have had to play behind for much of the year.
Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis
While dealing with numerous off-field issues, the Raiders have put together a good start to the season. They have won three of their last four games, and much of that has been due to the stellar play of quarterback Derek Carr.
Carr has thrown for over 2500 yards with 13 touchdown passes. Darren Waller is one of the tight ends in the game and has been a huge weapon for Carr and the Raiders. Josh Jacobs has missed a lot of time due to injury, but when he’s healthy, he’s one of the top running backs in the league.
Defensively, the Raiders have been sneaky-good this season. They’re giving up just over 340 yards while giving up 23 points per game. We’ll see if they can handle Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense.
Prediction
Las Vegas won’t give up on the Chiefs quite yet, as the oddsmakers have made them a 2.5-point favorite. In looking at some betting stats, neither team looks like a sure thing.
The Chiefs are 2-8 against the spread in their last ten games. The Raiders are 2-4 against the spread in their last six games.
Against our better judgment, we’re taking the Chiefs in this one. The Raiders lost to the lowly New York Giants last weekend, while Kansas City beat the Packers. We think the Chiefs will finally show up and play well and will beat the Raiders 28-24.
