Fnatic vs Evil Geniuses
Fnatic vs Evil Geniuses is arguably the most exciting match of the day, featuring two of the top teams from their respective regions. Notably, Evil Geniuses will be without Danny for this match as he took a break from pro play after completing the LCS 2022 Summer Playoffs. On the other side, Fnatic will miss Hylissang but will have Upset back in action.
Despite the missing players (Hyli will return), EG and Fnatic are still the main favorites to win this group. Still, there is a rather big gap between the two teams, with Fnatic showing significantly better performance metrics across the latter part of the season.
Not only have Fnatic managed better performance figures than EG, but they’ve done it against much stronger competition in the League of Legends European Championship. On top of that, EG will be without their star ADC, but in EG’s defense, they had more than enough time to work with Kaori, whereas Fnatic have had a week max to learn how to play with new support.
There are many narratives you can follow for this match, but no matter how you look at it, Fnatic are a much better team overall.

DRX vs Royal Never Give Up
League of Legends Pro League (LPL) teams are usually very overrated, and there are many examples of that – remember LGD Gaming? Still, this is not a narrative we’re ready to follow here, mainly because Royal Never Give Up are much stronger than most of the previous LPL’s fourth seeds.
On top of that, it’s tough to find anything good to say about DRX.
Admittedly, they looked bad in a very strong league, but there are definitely stronger Korean LoL squads that could represent League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) better. I would argue that DRX are fifth or even sixth-best team in the region, which might not make sense, but they overperformed in the playoffs and got a bit lucky.
And even arguing that DRX didn’t look good because they had to play in a strong league makes no sense, knowing that RNG had to play in an equally strong league but have done much better. With that in mind, we can conclude that RNG are simply a better team.
Beyond that, the current meta seems to shift back to Kaisa (potentially), which will benefit RNG more than DRX, particularly GALA, who will be tough to stop. And even if RNG’s bot side takes up a supporting role, Royal Never Give Up still have a better top and mid.
There is a world where DRX cause an upset, assuming they keep playing at the same level they did in the playoffs, but this game is Royal Never Give Up’s to lose.
