Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for a Monday Night Football matchup, as the New England Patriots will host the Chicago Bears.
New England has won two straight games to even their record at 3-3. The Chicago Bears have been struggling, losing their last three and coming into this one with a 2-4 record.
Both teams will have young starting quarterbacks in this one. Chicago will start second-year quarterback Justin Fields. The Patriots will more than likely start rookie signal-caller Bailey Zappe. Mac Jones has been cleared to practice, but we’re not sure who Bill Belichick will play on Monday night.
Let’s preview both teams, and then we’ll give you our NFL Betting prediction for this week’s Monday Night Football game.
Will the Patriots Zappe the Bears on Monday Night?
Chicago Bears
When the Bears started off the season by beating the San Francisco 49ers, many thought that maybe this team was better than anticipated. Fast forward a few weeks, and we’re seeing what the Bears truly are, a bad football team.
Let’s start with the offense. Matt Eberflus and his staff have shown a hesitancy to turn Fields loose. Maybe it’s because of the poor offensive line. Or it could be because of the lack of prominent receivers.
We’re really not sure, but this offense hasn’t gotten much done this season. Running backs David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert have shown flashes but nothing consistent.
Defensively, the Bears have had some injury issues. The secondary has been ok, but the run defense has been abysmal. We look for Belichick to pound the ball throughout the night to take advantage of the Bears’ poor rushing defense.
New England Patriots
The experts thought that this might be the year that the Patriots finally crashed. After evening their record at 3-3, many are thinking that the Pats could actually be playoff contenders.
They play in a loaded AFC East, so it’s going to be tough, but they could actually sneak into the postseason.
Offensively, the Patriots have relied on a steady run game. When Damien Harris went down with an injury, Rhamondre Stevenson took over the lead-back role. Stevenson is averaging over five yards per carry this season.
If Zappe gets the nod, the Patriots should be confident. Since he took over for the injured Jones and Brian Hoyer, New England has gone on its winning streak. We’ll see if the magic will continue.
Defensively, the Patriots should match up well with the Bears. Belichick has always seemed to find a way to make things difficult for young starting quarterbacks.
Fields could hurt this defense with his legs, as Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen have had success running the ball against New England.
Prediction
New England comes into this one as a heavy favorite, as the oddsmakers have made them eight-point favorites. With the way the Bears are playing, especially on the offensive end, and the way that the Patriots have been scoring as of late, we have to take the Patriots. New England wins this one 28-13, covering the spread in the process.
