Fans of NASCAR are familiar with the Bristol Motor Speedway, but this weekend, it is going to look a whole lot different than what they are used to. Instead of racing around the paved track, the drivers will instead be tackling the dirt. In an effort to mix things up this season, a dirt weekend has been added into the schedule, which makes for an exciting proposition. All three of the races this weekend will be held on the dirt, but we are going to get the previews started by looking at the Truck Series and the Pinty’s Dirt Race, which clocks in at a little over 133 miles. Let’s take a look at some of the top drivers in the standings heading into this weekend so you can make your bets against their NASCAR Truck Series odds.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series: Pinty’s Dirt Race
John H. Nemecheck
As we look at these drivers, we are going to talk about their past performances at Bristol, but keep in mind that this is a totally different type of race, so those past performances may end up meaning nothing. Nemecheck is off to a blazing start this season, winning once and landing in the top 5 in each of the Truck Series races. That is surely more than enough to have him up among the favorites this weekend. He has a couple of 3rd place finishes at Bristol in the Truck Series and another in the Xfinity Series, so this is a track he has done well at.
Ben Rhodes
If you want to talk about a fast start to the season, you need to talk about Ben Rhodes. He came storming out of the gate, winning each of the first 2 races in the Truck Series, adding another top 10 finish to that start before finishing 16th last week in Atlanta. That is enough to have him sitting in second in the driver standings through the first 4 races of the season. At Bristol, he has landed in the top 10 in 3 of his last 4 races there, but again, this is a totally different surface we are talking about.
Sheldon Creed
Creed is still looking for his first win of the season, but he has been in the hunt in several of the races this season, landing in the top 10 in 3 of the 4 races to this point. While the dirt track is going to present a unique challenge for all the drivers, it may be one that Creed might be better suited to adapt to. He spends a lot of time in the Stadium Super Trucks Series, which have races that are of the off-road variety. That experience may give Creed the edge here.
Matt Crafton
Crafton comes into this season as a 3-time winner of the Truck Series, so he always needs to be considered a threat in any race. This is a driver with a ton of experience, and one who is starting to get on a bit of a roll after a disappointing start at Daytona. Crafton has finished in the top 10 in each of his last 3 races, so he is knocking on the door and needs to be on your radar when looking for a driver to wager on in the dirt.
