We are two races into the 2022 Cup Series playoffs, and you have to say that it has been a rather strange start to the postseason proceedings. Rather than seeing the top drivers take control, we have instead seen those last 2 races win by drivers who failed to make the playoff cut. It was Erik Jones winning first, followed by a victory for Bubba Wallace last weekend. That alone proves the unpredictable nature of the sport, but we very often see the cream rising to the top, so perhaps it will be time for one of the leaders to shine under the lights in Bristol this weekend in the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. The NASCAR Betting Odds are now on the board, and there are some very familiar faces in among the favorites, so let’s take a look.
NASCAR Cup Series Betting Preview for the 2022 Bass Pro Shops Night Race
Denny Hamlin (+700)
Denny Hamlin has been relatively quiet this season, winning just 2 races to this point. That said, he is showing signs that he might be the man to beat in the playoffs, as he finished 2nd in each of the first 2 races in the Round of 16. He looks like a certainty to make the cut, but you can bet that he would love to get the win that would give him the automatic berth in the Round of 12. He had a poor showing in Bristol in the early part of this season, but Hamlin did land in the top 10 in the 2021 night race. That, combined with his playoff form, suggests he might be one to watch on Saturday night.
Chase Elliott (+750)
For a while, it looked as though Elliott was about to go on a tear that might take him all the way to his 2nd Cup Series Championship in 3 years. He went on a 5-race run that saw him pick up 3 wins and a pair of 2nd place finishes, but he has cooled off rather dramatically since then. He has now gone 3 straight races failing to crack the top 10 and will be looking to start building some momentum this weekend. He ran 25th in this corresponding race last season, but he did have a top 10 finish in Bristol earlier this year.
Kyle Larson (+780)
Larson had a season for the ages in 2021, delivering dominant performances from start to finish to win a Cup Series Championship that never really felt in doubt. It was always going to be impossible to follow that performance, but he is still very much in the conversation to repeat as champion in 2022. While he only has 2 wins on the year, a big drop from last season, he is heading to a track and a race that he won in 2021. This might well be the race that kickstarts his playoff run.
Kyle Busch (+800)
This season will represent the end of an era for Busch, as he will be making the switch from Joe Gibbs Racing, where he spent the last 15 years, to Richard Childress Racing next year. It’s big news, and what better way for Busch to close out this part of his career than with another championship? Recent form suggests that we won’t see that happening, but you do have to wonder if the move was proving to be a distraction. I guess we’ll find out this weekend.
