NASCAR Odds this Weekend: Cook Out 400 Betting Analysis and Best Drivers to Win

Cook Out 400 NASCAR Betting Odds, Lines, Picks, and Prediction

During the course of the regular season in the NASCAR Cup Series, there are all manner of little battles that take place.

Some are between individual drivers, while others are with drivers trying to conquer a track that is never particularly kind to them.

My Cup Series Analysis

The biggest battle, though, is to land in the top 16 and make it into the playoffs for a shot at winning the Cup Series championship.

It is a long grind, with only the best drivers able to get the job done. We are drawing ever closer to knowing which 16 drivers will be in this year, as there are just 4 regular season races to come.

The first of those is the Cook Out 400 at the Richmond Raceway, this coming Sunday at 6 PM EST. Let’s look at the current odds for this one.

Christopher Bell NASCAR Pick +420

Expectations were high for Bell coming into this season, given that he has made it to the Championship Round in each of the last 2 years.

That is a difficult trend to continue, and you have to say that Bell has not been at that level to this point in the season.

He is currently sitting down in 8th in the driver standings and will likely need to win a race or two in the postseason if he is to make it to the final 4 again.

He does have a couple of wins under his belt this season, so he is certainly capable.

Furthermore, he ran in the top 3 in 2 of the last 3 races in Richmond, so a top 3 finish looks to be a good bet.

Martin Truex Jr. NASCAR Pick +490

At this late stage of the regular season, we are still waiting to see Truex Jr. win his first race of the year, so it automatically goes without saying that taking him to win this weekend is very much a big risk.

Even a top 3 finish seems like a risky bet when you consider that he has only cracked the top 5 in 4 races this season.

Why then do the bookies have him among the favorites this weekend? Well, he has won twice in Richmond over the past few seasons, but recent form suggests he will not repeat.

Denny Hamlin NASCAR Pick +490

After a strong first half of the season, where he won 3 races, Hamlin has somewhat fizzled out in the second half.

While he has not been particularly great of late, he has done enough to stay in the top 4 in the driver standings, so no real concerns about the playoffs other than getting back to winning ways before the big races begin.

If he is going to return to winning, this is going to be the track where it happens, as he has a 4th and a pair of 2nd place finishes in his last 3 runs in this race.

Kyle Larson NASCAR Pick +570

As we have mentioned in previous previews, the lead has changed several times this season. Larson has spent some time in the #1 spot this season and is back there again ahead of this race.

Larson found his way back to the top after winning his 4th race of the season last weekend, but can he maintain his lead this weekend?

I’m not so sure if he can, given that he has not had a lot of luck on this particular track.

2023 Cook Out Southern 500

With the Cup Series playoffs set to begin on Sunday, we have reached the stage of the season where there are now only 16 drivers who can potentially end the season as the champion. The reality is, though, that the drivers who failed to make the cut can all play the role of spoiler now, winning races and preventing the top 16 from picking up the required points to move on to the next round. We have 3 races to come before the field of 16 is reduced to 12, with the first of those races coming this weekend in Richmond with the running of the Cook Out Southern 500. If any of the top 16 drivers win this one, they automatically move on to the Round of 12, so there is a lot at stake here. Let’s take a look at NASCAR picks of the current favorites.

Martin Truex Jr.

NASCAR Betting Pick: +600

Given how things played out last season, you have to say that what Truex Jr. has done in 2023 is nothing short of astonishing. Last year, he failed to make the playoffs, with the feeling being that he might decide to call it a career. Truex Jr. decided to take another run at it, and it has proven to be a wise decision, as he heads into the postseason ranked #2 after a stellar regular season that saw him win 3 races. I am a little surprised that he is in as the favorite for this race, though, as he finished 31st in both of his previous races on this track.

Kyle Larson

NASCAR Betting Pick: +600

Larson won the Cup Series in 2021 after delivering one of the best full-season performances we have seen in quite some time. While last year was not a total disaster, he failed to reach the heights of his championship season, going out in the Round of 8 and finishing 7th overall. It has been more of the same this year, as he comes into the playoffs ranked down in the #6 spot, but as we said earlier, a single win will change all of that very quickly. The problem here is that Larson has not won a race since April, so you have to wonder if he can step it up this weekend.

Denny Hamlin

NASCAR Betting Pick: +850

If you were going to hold my feet to the fire and make me choose a winner this weekend, I would almost certainly choose Hamlin to win the Cook Out Southern 500. Before we get to the heart of the reason why I would do that, we need to look at what he has done to this point in the season. Hamlin has been a little up and down, but he has won a couple of races and done enough to head into the playoffs ranked in the #3 slot. What is more convincing though is that he has finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the last 2 versions of this race.

William Byron

NASCAR Betting Pick: +850

Byron is a driver that has, over the past few years, finished progressively higher in the Cup Series standings, culminating in a 6th place overall finish in 2022. He is very much on pace to improve on that finish, as he heads into the playoffs with the most wins (5) of any driver, as well as the #1 ranking. He won on the Darlington track earlier this season, so a very good bet at these odds.
