During the course of the regular season in NASCAR, there really isn’t a huge value in winning.
It’s all about picking up points and staying in the top 16 drivers so that you can be running meaningful races once the playoffs begin.

My NASCAR Cup Series Analysis
Once we get into the postseason, though, the focus definitely shifts to winning. Any driver that wins in the playoffs automatically punches their ticket into the next round.
We are 1 week into the Cup Series Playoffs, and the only driver safely into the Round of 12 is Joey Logano, who won last weekend.
This weekend represents a whole new challenge, as the drivers will be on the road course at Watkins Glen.
Let’s take a look at the current odds for this race.
^Kyle Larson +520
Whenever a road course race rolls around, you generally always find Larson at or near the top of the bookies board.
This week is no exception as he is in as the favorite for this one. Larson does need to try and rebound after a poor showing last weekend in Atlanta, where he barely cracked the top 30.
This might well be the place for him to do it, as he won on this track a couple of years ago, while already winning another road race earlier this year.
Larson looks like the obvious choice for a win bet.
^Tyler Reddick +710
This is another driver who is always considered a threat whenever races move from the oval to the road course.
While his lone win this season did come on an oval track, Reddick has proven in the past that the road is where he excels, as seen in his win last season at the Circuit of the Americas.
Reddick is in good form overall, finishing in the top 3 in the regular season and getting the playoffs started with a 6th place run.
I think he could be a good top 3 pick this weekend.
^Shane Van Gisbergen +590
You tend to forget that it’s not just the playoff drivers hitting the track in the postseason.
In fact, Van Gisbergen is a guy that you might not have seen racing in the Cup Series if you don’t tune into every race.
Van Gisbergen races sparingly at this level, and when he does drop in, it is usually always for the road races.
While he is certainly great at his craft, Van Gisbergen has just 1 Cup Series win, with that one coming in the Chicago Street Race last season.
Top 5 might be his level here.
^Chase Elliott +780
After missing out on the playoffs last year because of injury, Elliott is probably happy to be back in the hunt, but also probably not content with just being here again.
He saw his playoffs begin with a top 10 finish in Atlanta last weekend, but Elliott is always a better bet when road racing.
This is a guy that always seems to hang out among the leaders every week, which in turn makes him a good bet for the smaller spoils.
With that in mind, I like Elliott to land in the top 3 in this race.
^A long journey worth waiting for.

2023 Go Bowling at The Glen
We are getting down to the wire in the Cup Series regular season, and for those below the playoff cut line, the time to make a move is running out. This weekend delivers another tricky challenge for the drivers, as we are heading to a road course for the second straight week of action. This time around, it will be a trip around the Watkins Glen circuit, with valuable points up for grabs. As all NASCAR fans are well aware, the road course races offer a unique challenge that is better suited to some drivers than others. That will be reflected in the race odds for this coming Sunday, which we are going to get to now. Let’s take a look at the current NASCAR picks of the favorites to win the Go Bowling at the Glen race this weekend.

Chase Elliott
NASCAR Betting Pick: +340
If anyone needs a win more than Elliott this weekend, it’s tough to imagine who it might be. The former champion is sitting below the playoff line, thanks in large part to missing 7 races through injury and suspension. The pressure is very much on for Elliott, who can make it into the top 16 with a win this weekend, but this is a driver who has a very decent record on road courses. That said, he is still looking for his first win of the season, which is a little surprising when you consider his track record. Elliott finished 2nd last weekend on a road course and was 4th in this race in 2022.

Kyle Larson
NASCAR Betting Pick: +530
There are zero playoff concerns for Larson, as he comes into this weekend sitting 4th overall in the driver standings. As good as that may be, he will still want to close out the regular season on a good run of form that he hopes will carry over into the postseason. It’s been a minute since Larson last took a checkered flag, but there are some signs that he might be coming around, as he has finished in the top 10 in each of his last 2 races. Even bigger, though, is the fact that he won this race last year.

Martin Truex Jr.
NASCAR Betting Pick: +680
What looked like mission impossible for Truex Jr. at the end of last season might actually be about to come true. After a disappointing 2022 season, there was the belief that Truex Jr. might call time on his Cup Series career, but he decided to have another go and that decision is looking to be a stroke of absolute genius. He comes into this season with 3 wins under his belt and the lead in driver standings. One of those wins came on a road course in Sonoma, so could he get another W this weekend?

Tyler Reddick
NASCAR Betting Pick: +730
Reddick is sitting in the top 10, albeit only just, in the driver standings, despite having a bit of an up and down season as times. He does have a win under his belt in 2023, with that one coming on the road course at the Circuit of the Americas. In fact, over the last couple of seasons, Reddick has picked up 4 wins in the Cup Series, 3 of which came on road courses. These are very good odds for a guy that tends to do well when not racing on an oval.
