My Cup Series Analysis

We are now well beyond the midway point of the regular season, with just 10 races remaining before we get down to the final 16 drivers in with a shot at winning the championship in 2024.

The pressure is now very much starting to mount, especially for those who are closer to the cut line than they would like to be. In the grand scheme of things, 10 races are not a lot, but it is still more than enough for some drivers to make a move, starting with the Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol this Sunday at 7 PM EST. Let’s take a look at the current favorites for this race.

Christopher Bell NASCAR Odds +370

Bell has been knocking on the championship door for each of the last 2 seasons, making it to the Championship Round both times, only to come up a little short in the end. Bell is currently sitting down in 9th, but given his results this season, I’m sure he’ll be just fine in regard to making the playoffs.

He already has a pair of wins to his name and is on a run that has seen him finish in the top 10 in each of the last 3 races. Bell has not raced on this track in the Cup Series, but he did get the win there when racing with the Xfinity Series, so a top 5 finish might be a good bet.

Kyle Larson NASCAR Odds +610

Larson is back at the top of the driver standings, which is all the more impressive when you consider that he has raced 1 less time than the other drivers, as he skipped a race to take part in the Indianapolis 500.

Larson is coming off his 3rd win of the season in Sonoma last weekend, but this is definitely a new challenge, as this will be the first time that the Cup Series drivers have raced on the Iowa track. Larson did race in Iowa with the Xfinity Series several years ago, landing a top 5 finish in that one, but can we expect better this time around?

Denny Hamlin NASCAR Odds +680

Hamlin saw his great run of form come to an end last weekend with a poor showing in Sonoma. Prior to that race, he had 5 straight races of finishing in the top 5, so there is every reason to believe that his Sonoma run was nothing more than a minor blip on the radar.

As experienced as Hamlin is as a driver, he is another one that has zero experience on this Iowa track, which makes wagering this weekend that much trickier. I like Hamlin to bounce back after a rough showing, though, so would be willing to play him in the top 5.

Ryan Blaney NASCAR Odds +780

Given that we have something of a tough scenario this weekend, with a new race on a fairly new track, the bookies seem to have favored guys that have raced in Iowa. Blaney is among that group, landing a pair of top 10 finishes in Iowa during his time with the Xfinity Series.

He is, though, still looking for his first win of the season in the Cup Series, so I’m not so sure that I would be taking him to break that goose egg this weekend.
