The Cup Series is off to Martinsville this weekend for the NOCO 400, and we will see the return of a familiar face. After missing 6 races through an injury sustained off the track, Chase Elliott will return with a tough run ahead of him to make the playoffs. He is currently down in 34th spot right now, but we all know that he does a great job of staying with the pack and picking up points. It might be asking a bit too much for him to return and immediately get a win, but I would certainly be looking at him to get into the top 10. This is always a fun track, and the bookies have their NASCAR betting favorites for the Sunday race, so let’s take a look at some of them.

William Byron
It’s funny how you can look at every Cup Series driver and get a handle on the specific races and tracks that they like based on their past performances. If we are going to go with that way of thinking, then it makes sense that Byron should be in as the favorite here, as he won this corresponding race last season. It also doesn’t hurt that he already has a pair of wins under his belt this season, although he has cooled off a little in recent weeks. Byron looks to be a good top 5 pick, but I’m not so sure I have him winning this one.

Kyle Larson
It has been a bit of an up and down start to the season for the 2021 Cup Series champion, but as is always the case, you simply cannot count Larson out of any race. He does have a win under his belt this season, but he followed that up with a very poor showing last weekend, which is basically how things have gone for him through the opening couple of months. Larson does have a win on the Martinsville track, although that one came several years ago. In the 2022 version of this race, he finished 19th overall.

Christopher Bell
It is incredibly tight at the top of the Cup Series driver standings, but after taking the checkered flag in the Bristol Dirt Race last weekend, Bell is out on top. He has been more than just that lone win, though, finishing in the top 5 in 4 other races already this season. All of that makes him a very deserving leader through the opening 8 races. Bell finished 20th in this corresponding race last season, but it should be noted that he won in Martinsville later in the year, so definitely do not rule him out.

Denny Hamlin
The bookies seem to think that Hamlin will be in the mix in Martinsville this weekend, but you have to say that he will need to be a whole lot better than he has been through the opening 8 races if he is to take the checkered flag on Sunday. He has only cracked the top 10 in 3 of the 8 races to this point in the season, so he has to be seen as a bit of a longshot in this one. I think I would be looking elsewhere for the winner.
