While the regular season in the Cup Series is always fun to watch, especially when it gets down to the wire with playoff spots on the line, most fans will agree that the season really kicks off once we get into the postseason races.
That is where we are now in the Cup Series, with the Round of 16 set to commence this weekend with the running of the Quaker State 400 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

My Cup Series Analysis
This is when the pressure really starts to mount, with drivers well aware that they have 3 shots at getting enough points to move on to the next round.
Of course, the winner gets an automatic berth in the Round of 12, so who might that winner be?
Let’s take a look at our current favorites.
^Ryan Blaney +990
Blaney finished the regular season sitting in 5th in the driver standings, and he would probably have been higher up had he not gone in the tank over the final month of the season.
He is on a run where he has now failed to crack the top 10 in each of his last 4 races, which is not the type of form you want to go into the playoffs with.
Ryan may be able to turn that around in Atlanta, though, as he has been in the top 10 in each of his last 3 races on that track, including a 2nd place finish earlier this season.
Still, a top 5 would be how I would play Blaney this weekend.
^Joey Logano +1025
Logano has some work to do if he is to end the season as the Cup Series champion, as he ended the season down in 9th.
He, too, was on a poor run of form before cracking the top 10 last weekend in the final regular season race.
Logano won it all in 2022, so he certainly knows how to get the job done, so perhaps he can come to life in the postseason.
Joey did have a win on this Atlanta tracks last season, so a top 3 finish is not out of the question.
^Kyle Busch +1075
One of the biggest surprises of the season is that Kyle Busch will not be part of the playoffs this year.
He needed a win in the final race of the season to get in, and he nearly pulled it off, finishing 2nd overall. He has actually been in great form of late, landing in the top 5 in each of his last 3 races.
It’s tough to know whether missing the playoffs will take the wind out of his sails, but this is a track that Busch always seems to do well on, so he might be worth taking a risk on to win.
^Drove the heck out of it.

Brad Keselowski +1225
Keselowski will be part of the playoffs, but he also has some work to do, as he closed out the regular season down in 8th place.
He has just 1 win this season, with that one coming in Darlington, but he has not been much of a factor of late.
While his run in Atlanta earlier this season was not particularly great, he does have a decent history on this track, so I might well look at hm for a top 5 finish.

2023 Quaker State 400
We are getting done to the wire in the Cup Series season, which means that the drivers at or below the playoff cut line have to be beginning to feel the pressure. There are still enough races for those drivers to make a move, as getting a win essentially makes the final 16 a bit of a lock. From that point forward, anything can happen, so it’s all about getting in and trying to make something happen. This weekend, the Cup Series will be in Atlanta for the Quaker State 400, which could well mean that one driver might have an edge over the rest, which we will get to in a moment. The odds for this race are now on the board, so let’s take a look at who the bookies believe to be the major players to bet on against their NASCAR odds.

Chase Elliott
NASCAR Betting Pick: +1050
One driver that really needs a win more than most is Elliott. He has missed 7 races this season through injury and suspension, but he does have an exemption that would allow him to take part in the playoffs, assuming he can get in. the best way to do that is to win, and how special would it be to get that all-important win in his home state of Georgia. The crowd will almost certainly be on his side, but will that be enough? Elliott won this race in 2022 and is the favorite again, so it does look as though the stars might be aligning for him.

Kyle Busch
NASCAR Betting Pick: +1100
Busch already has 3 wins this season and is currently sitting 3rd overall in the driver standings, so the playoffs are not really a concern for him at this point. That said, you don’t ever want to take your foot off the gas, as the last thing any driver wants to do is go into the Round of 16 on a cold streak. Busch is the furthest thing from cold right now, though, as he is on a streak that has seen him finish no worse than 9th in each of the last 6 races, with 1 win included in that mix. He has had some success in Atlanta, so a top 5 wager might not be a bad way to go.

Joey Logano
NASCAR Betting Pick: +1250
The defensing champion is looking to take another run at the Cup Series title, but he is going to need to come from behind to make that happen. Logano finds himself down in 9th in the driver standings, but with a win under his belt this season, he looks to be comfortable. Still, he would like to move up a little higher and buy himself some breathing space in the standings. I’m not so sure that he can do that this weekend, though, as Atlanta has not been very kind to him over the years.

Ryan Blaney
NASCAR Betting Pick: +1250
Blaney is sitting just ahead of Logano in the standings, and while he also looks to be in good shape for the playoffs, he could also use an uptick in form. He has been very much on the outside looking in over the last 3 races, which has to make bettors a little nervous when looking to play this race. That said, he finished in the top 5 in Atlanta last year and took the win the year prior. A top 5 bet might be a wager worth placing.
