South Point 400 Odds & Playoff hunt for Top 4 contenders in the Cup Series 2024

South Point 400 Odds & Playoff hunt for Top 4 contenders in the Cup Series 2024

We are at the part of the NASCAR Cup Series season where the stakes just keep getting higher and higher.

After last week’s race, which was won by Kyle Larson, the playoff field has now been reduced to 8.

South Point 400 Odds for NASCAR Race Sunday
1. Kyle Larson | 4052 points
2. William Byron | 4023 points
3. Denny Hamlin | 4015 points
4. Tyler Reddick | 4029 points

My Cup Series Analysis of South Point 400

There are 3 more races to come before we get to the final race of the year, which is the Championship Round, where a champ will be crowned.

It’s pretty simple at this point in that a win in the next 3 races guarantees a spot in the final round.

While it certainly seems simple enough, it is the drivers who can best handle the pressure who will find their way into the final four.

This weekend, the drivers are in Las Vegas for the South Point 400, and the bookies have their idea as to who will be in the hunt, so let’s take a look.

Kyle Larson +340

Larson nabbed his first championship in 2021 and looks to be very much on pace to win another one. He appears to be getting hot at the right time and has picked up 2 wins in the last 4 races.

He already has 6 wins this season, which is 2 more than he has all of last season, so he has very much upped the ante in his quest to win his 2nd championship.

While he has had a couple of wins recently, he had had a tendency to be a little unpredictable this season.

That said, he won this race in 2023, so he looks like a good bet to be in the top 3, as well as a potential winner in Sin City.

William Byron +810

Byron’s trajectory has been on an upward trend for the last 5 years, with his 3rd place overall finish last season being the highlight of his career to this point.

He is currently sitting 4th overall and is very much on pace to make it to his 2nd straight Championship Round, but he will be well aware that there are zero guarantees, especially with 4 very good drivers on his heels heading into this weekend.

While he hasn’t won recently, he is still in very good form, landing on the podium in each of his last 3 races.

That form alone makes him a very good top 3 pick.

Denny Hamlin +910

Speaking of drivers on the bubble, we need to talk about Denny Hamlin, who is currently sitting down in 6th at the moment.

You have to go a long way back on the schedule to find the last time that Hamlin picked up a checkered flag this season, but that does not mean that he is not a threat to win.

He won this race back in the 2021 season, as well as landing in the top 10 in each of his last 2 runs in Vegas.

I don’t like his chances of winning this weekend and a top 5 might be the high bar.

Tyler Reddick +930

It was at this stage of the proceedings last season that Reddick bowed out of the playoffs, settling for 6th overall in 2023.

He is better positioned to go at least one step better this year, sitting in 3rd overall, bur he still needs to buckle down for the next 3 races and pick up the points required to move on.

As mentioned earlier, a win will put him in the final four, but he has been well off the pace of late, failing to crack the top 20 in 4 straight races.

He finished 2nd in Las Vegas earlier this season, so perhaps this can be a bounce back weekend.

NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400: Who is going to end the season as the NASCAR Cup Series champion. That question just got a little easier to answer, as we are now down to just 8 drivers with a shot at winning it all. | NASCAR Lines | MyBookie Sportsbook

The Round of 8 begins this weekend in Las Vegas with the running of the South Point 400, after which we will have two more races as we look to get down to the final four. For the drivers still in the hunt, the pressure has just got a little higher, so expect the next 4 races to be about as exciting as it gets as we wait to see who ends the years as the champion of the Cup Series. The odds for this race are now live, which means it’s time to take a look at the NASCAR odds, the current favorites and perhaps try to pick a winner.

Kyle Larson

Larson comes into the Round of 8 sitting 4th in the standings, but there is some reason to be concerned right now, as he has not been great over the last few races. After a strong start to the playoffs, he has now failed to crack the top 10 in each of the last 3 races, which is not the form of someone who could potentially end up being the champion. While he had a poor run in this race in 2022, Larson did manage to bookend that performance with a pair of 2nd place finishes on this Las Vegas track. This is not a driver that I would count out despite his current form.

William Byron

You have to say that last year was a breakout season for Byron, but he will be well aware that this is the stage of the proceedings where his season ended in 2022. I would suggest that he looks to be a lock to improve on his 6th overall finish last year, especially when you look at his current form. Over the last 3 races, Byron had a win and a pair of 2nd place finishes, so you really can’t ask for much better than that. Will that run continue this weekend in Las Vegas? Well, he did win in Sin City at the start of the season, so I would definitely be looking to play him at these odds.

Denny Hamlin

It has very much been a case of close but no cigar for Hamlin in his long career in the Cup Series. He routinely makes the playoffs and has had several trips to the final 4, but he has not yet been able to turn that into a championship. Can he change that this season? He had a poor run last weekend, but that aside, he has been consistent, plus he finished in the top 5 in this race last season. I think it might be more of the same here, with top 5 looking like a good bet.

Tyler Reddick

If he is to move on to the final race of the season with a shot at winning the championship, Reddick may need to find a way to win one of the next three races. He is sitting in 7th right now and has some work to do to nab one of the final four spots. He finished 6th in this race in 2022 and was outside the top 10 in the earlier race in Vegas this season, so I’m not so sure this is the race I would play him to win.
