If the opening weekend of the NASCAR season is anything to go by, then it looks as though 2022 is going to be an exciting year for race fans. We saw a couple of surprise winners in the opening races of the season, as well as a crash-filled Daytona 500 that was about as exciting as it gets. That’s just one race in a long season, though, and the drivers will be back at it again this weekend at the Auto Club Speedway in California. There is no Truck Series race on the schedule this weekend, but we do still have a pair of races to look forward to. Daniel Hemric

The defending Xfinity Series champion found a way to deliver the goods and win it all last season despite winning just once in 2021. That win, though, came in the final race of the season, landing him the title in the process. 2022 is not off to the best of starts, with Hemric finishing well off the pace in Daytona last weekend. He will be looking to bounce back with a better showing this weekend and this might just be the track where he can deliver. There was no race here last season, but in 2020, Hemric delivered a top 5 performance in this race. Perhaps we can expect him to do even better this time around.

Austin Hill

After a few good years in the Truck Series, Austin Hill has decided to go full-time in the Xfinity Series. It is a move that is already reaping dividends, as he took the checkered flag last weekend in Daytona, which was sure to be a bit of a surprise to a lot of race fans. The question now is whether that win is a sign of big things to come or a one-off victory that he will find tough to repeat. While Hill has raced sparingly in the Xfinity Series over the years, he does have one previous run in this race, finishing 16^th in 2020.

AJ Allmendinger

You hate to bring age into the conversation, but at 40 years of age, AJ Allmendinger is getting to the point where a lot of drivers have either already retired or are contemplating doing so. Allmendinger moved from the Cup Series to the Xfinity Series last season and proved that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level, finishing 4^th overall in the driver standings. He got off to a solid start last weekend, finishing 2^nd at Daytona, so he may be ready to make another concerted run at the championship this season.

Justin Allgaier

If you are looking for a consistent driver to wager on, then look no further than Allgaier. Since landing in the Xfinity Series back in 2009, he has never finished worse than 7^th overall, although you can bet that he will be more than a little disappointed to have never won a championship. He will be looking to change that this season, and he started out well, landing in the top 5 at Daytona last weekend. He has never won this race, but he did finish 2^nd in the 2018 season, so one to watch here.
