The season continues to move forward, with NASCAR heading to Darlington for another big weekend of racing. The action begins on Friday night with the running of the Buckle Up South Carolina 200 in the Truck Series. This will be the 9th race of the season for the truck drivers, and we have a very good battle going on at the top. In fact, we have a dead heat at the top of the standings, with 3 other drivers withing 56 points of the top 2. Things can change rather quickly, depending on the results of each race, so we are in for a great battle for playoff spots in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at a few of the drivers who might well be in the hunt to win this weekend.

Zane Smith
The defending champion is making it clear that he is not going to give up his crown without a fight. He is sharing the top spot right now and looking to move out into the outright lead, which he can do with another strong showing on Friday night. Smith already has a couple of wins on the season, and while it has been a minute since his last victory, he seems to be getting back into form with a pair of 3rd place finishes in the last 2 races. He has landed in the top 10 in his last 2 runs at Darlington, so he is certainly not guaranteed to be the winner on Friday.

Ty Majeski
Last season was the first full year in the Truck Series for Majeski, and while it took him a minute to get going, he finished the season on a high note, winning a couple of races in the playoffs. He made it all the way to the final 4 last year, but he had a poor showing in the final race of the season to finish 4th overall. It looks as though he might well be in the hunt for a championship again this season, as he is currently tied for top spot with Smith. Majeski has yet to pick up a win this year, but he has been in the top 5 in 5 races already. He finished 4th at Darlington last season.

Ben Rhodes
Rhodes is something of an anomaly in the Truck Series in that he has only won 3 total races in the last 2 seasons, yet he has managed to win a championship and finish 2nd overall in those two seasons. It is looking to be much the same story this season, as he has yet to win a race in 2023 but still finds himself in the top 3 in the driver standings. He did have a 2nd place finish at Darlington in his championship season, but he has not been great there other than that. Possibly a top 5 pick.

Christian Eckes
Eckes came into this season as one of the favorites to win it all. The way he began suggested that he might be a smart pick, but things have gone off the rails over the past few races. He had a win and a podium finish in the first 3 races of the season, so his current form feels like a little bit of a radar blip. I feel that he is due to have a breakout race, and this weekend might be it.
