NASCAR is arguably the only sport where you can potentially win a championship without winning a single race.
It’s all about picking up points and staying alive, and while that route is possible, it’s not one that drivers tend to take.

My NASCAR Xfinity Series Analysis for the Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300
This is especially true when we get to the playoffs and drivers know that a win will give them an automatic berth into the next round.
We are in the Round of 8 in the Xfinity Series right now, with just 2 races remaining to decide which 4 drivers will be in the Championship Round.
We already know one of the drivers who will be there, which we will get to in a moment, but who will join him?
The next chance to win a spot in the final four comes this weekend at Homestead-Miami with the Amex Credit Card 300, which is set for Saturday at 4 PM EST.
^Cole Custer Xfinity Pick +350
Heading into this weekend, the only driver who can really relax is AJ Allmendinger, as his win last weekend put him in the Championship Round.
Custer will be looking to win and keep his dream of a second consecutive Xfinity Series Championship alive.
Cole has the same number of wins (2) as he did at this stage last season, and we all know how that played out, so while it has been a minute since his last victory, he simply cannot be counted out.
This is a guy that knows how to handle the pressure of a championship race, but that said, I am not convinced he wins this one.
^Aric Almirola Xfinity Pick +540
We all tend to get locked in on the playoff contenders, forgetting that there are a ton of other drivers on the track who can also get the job done despite not being part of the postseason.
Almirola is a regular on the Cup Series circuit, but he is dropping down for this one as he prepares for his race on Sunday.
He has already raced 10 times at this level in 2024, winning twice and landing on the podium on 2 other occasions.
Given his experience and that he frequently races at a higher level, you have to consider Almirola a real threat to win.
^Sheldon Creed Xfinity Pick +680
It was a disappointing end to the playoffs for Creed, who bowed out in the last round.
It would be easy to just race without any real desire to win, but there is a lot of money up for grabs for race winners, so while Creed would love to still be in the championship hunt, you can bet that he will also be going all out to get the prize money for this race.
He has not been particularly great on this track, so a top 10 finish might be the high bar for Creed here.
^Sam Mayer Xfinity Pick +840
Of the 8 drivers remaining in the hunt for the Xfinity Series championship, Sam Mayers is down near the bottom of the heap in the eyes of the bookies, with his current odds of winning it all sitting at +2200.
Live we said earlier, though, one win can change everything, so Mayer can see those odds shift dramatically if he can take the checkered flag and join Allmendinger in the Championship Round.
He won this race last season, so a win or a top 3 finish might be a good way to wager on him this weekend.

2020 Xfinity Series Hooters 250
With the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series heading to Homestead-Miami Speedway, it’s time to take a look at the handful of drivers that are looking like possible winners in this coming weekend’s Hooters 250. Highlighting this fun-filled event will be beloved former NASCAR Series superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. The 15-time NASCAR Most Popular Driver Award winner will be in the No. 8 JR Motorsports Hellmann’s Chevrolet when this event goes down live on Saturday, June 13 at 3:30 PM ET. Now, let’s find out which drivers are looking good against their value-packed NASCAR odds.
NASCAR Hooters 250
Chase Briscoe +240
Briscoe is sitting atop the NASCAR Xfinity standings with six Top 10 finishes, four Top 5 finishes and two victories at Las Vegas and Darlington.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. +350
Since retiring as a NASCAR Cup Series driver following the 2017 season, Earnhardt has participated in one Xfinity Series race each year with his JR Motorsports operation. He finished fourth at Richmond Raceway in 2018 and fifth at Darlington Raceway last year. This season, he’ll take on the 1.5-mile Homestead track, where he’s made five previous series starts with a best finish of second in 1999.
“I really miss racing. I really miss driving, and it’s getting worse,” Earnhardt said. “I thought as I got out of the car and the further I got from my full-time career, the less that would bother me, but it actually is getting worse for some reason. I really look forward to getting some seat time, smelling the smells and hearing the noises and just enjoying being in the car.”
Justin Allgaier +450
Allgaier is in fourth place in the standings with four Top 10 finishes and a pair of top 5 finishes. Allgaier has a series high, 306 laps led so far this year.
Austin Cindric +700
Cindric is in sixth place in the Xfinity standings with five Top 10 finishes in eight starts and four Top 5 finishes. Cindric is fourth in pals led this year (146).
Noah Gragson +800
Gragson is in second place in the standings with six Top 10 finishes, five Top 5 finishes and two wins in the season-opening race at Daytona and two weeks back at Bristol. Gragson is third in pals led this year (153).
Harrison Burton +1000
Burton is in third place in the Xfinity standings with a stellar eight Top 10 finishes in eight starts, six Top 5 finishes and a victory in the third race of the year in California. Burton is fifth in laps led this year (130).
Ross Chastain +1000
Chastain is in fifth place in the standings with six Top 10 finishes in eight starts and one Top 5 finish, though he also has a pair of DNF’s along the way.
Brandon Jones +1200
Jones is in eighth place in the Xfinity standings with five Top 10 finishes, three Top 5 finishes and a victory in the fourth race of the year at Phoenix.
Justin Haley +2000
Haley is sitting in seventh place in the standings with five Top 10 finishes, three Top 5 finishes and one did not finish.
Riley Herbst +6000
Herbst is sitting in 11th place in the standings with three Top 10 finishes, one top 5 finish and a pair of DNF’s.
Prediction
I’m going with Harrison Burton for the outright win at a value-packed +1000 with prohibitive favorite Chase Briscoe finishing second at +240 and Noah Gragson, for third place at a value-packed +800.
