Expert Picks: Austin Hill to Dominate the Xfinity Series at Atlanta

The pressure is beginning to really heat up in the Xfinity Series as we head into the final 3 races of the regular season.

There is pressure all season long in this sport, but the needle certainly moves as we get closer to the playoffs, especially for those drivers who are sitting at or below the cut line, which is never a comfortable place to be.

Focused Health 250 | Odds for NASCAR Race Saturday
1. Austin Hill | 745 points
2. Jesse Love | 651 points
3. Justin Allgaier | 843 points
4. AJ Allmendinger | 700

My NASCAR Xfinity Series Analysis

When all is said and done, there will be 12 drivers that make the cut, all of whom will head into the playoffs with the dream of winning it all.

We are also at the stage of the season were getting hot at the right time matters, as good form that carries over into the playoffs can lead to a deep run.

This weekend, the Xfinity Series is in Atlanta for the Focused Health 250, so let’s take a look at the current race odds.

^

Austin Hill +290

I think we are all sitting here waiting for Hill to get back to the form that he showed in the early part of the season.

He started things off with back-to-back wins, but he has yet to take another checkered flag since.

Hill has developed something of a habit in that regard, as his last 3 seasons have all began in a similar fashion.

As it stands now, he is sitting in 4th in the driver standings, so very much in the hunt, but he needs to get back to winning ways if he is to end this season as the Xfinity Series champion.

He did win in Atlanta in 2022, so a top 3 pick might not be a bad way to go.

^

Jesse Love +540

This has been a very decent first full season in the Xfinity Series for Love, who is currently sitting in 8th in the driver standings.

Getting to the playoffs, which he is almost certainly going to do, is a great achievement for a rookie, but hie far can he actually go?

Love does have a win under his belt this year, with that one coming in Talladega, but he has been all over the place since then, making it very difficult to wager on him to win.

I’m not so sure that I would be willing to take the risk on a top 3 wager.

^

Justin Allgaier +950

I’m not sure you can classify it as getting hot, but Allgaier is coming into this race on a run of 8 straight finishes in the top 10, which he maintained in Darlington last weekend by the skin of his teeth.

Allgaier did have 1 win during that run and now has 2 wins this season. His high level of consistency over the last couple of months has paid off in that he is now sitting atop the driver standings.

He does have a pair of top 10 finishes in Atlanta over the past few seasons, and I would be willing to play him in the top 3 this weekend.

^

AJ Allmendinger +1025

Allmendinger is living proof that you can have some success in this sport without winning a ton of races.

He is back in the Xfinity Series on a full-time basis in 2024, and while he is still looking for his first win of the year, he has done enough to get himself into 6th pace overall.

For me, he is still very much a risky bet here, especially since his last couple of runs have not been great.

We are 4 races into the Xfinity Series season, with 2 full-time drivers in the series picking up the wins to this point.

MyBookie Sportsbook | 2024 Xfinity Series Odds Race at Circuit of Americas

This weekend will be a different challenge for all drivers, as the action will shift away from the oval track to the Circuit of the Americas road course. If you follow NASCAR in any way at all, you are probably well aware that some drivers seem to do better on these non-traditional tracks, which means that we could see a change in the overall driver standings by the time the weekend comes to an end. The race in question this weekend is the Focused Health 250, which is set to go on Saturday at 5 PM EST. The bookies have released the Xfinity Series odds for this one, so let’s take a closer look at a few of the drivers sitting atop the odds board.

Xfinity Series Focused Health 250 Odds to Win

  • Cole Custer +300
  • Chandler Smith +400
  • Austin Hill +500
  • Justin Allgaier +600

Cole Custer

Custer returned to the Xfinity Series on a full-time basis last season and immediately made an impact, ending the season as the champion. He is off to a slower start this season, but he is beginning to show some signs of life with a pair of top 10 finishes in the last 2 races. The reason why he is considered the favorite on Saturday is because of his performances on non-oval tracks. Of his 3 wins last year, one came on a road course, with another coming on the streets of Chicago. He did not perform particularly well on this track, but those other performances show that he is a threat on road courses.

Chandler Smith

It was a very solid first full season in the Xfinity Series for Smith in 2023, as he managed to finish 9th overall in the driver standings. The general consensus is that he will be among the contenders this season and he is certainly off to a start that very much backs that up. Through the opening 3 races of the season, he finished no worse than 5th before picking up his first win of the year in Phoenix last time out. He finished 12th in this race in the 2023 season, but I think we can expect much better this weekend. A top 5 finish looks to be a good bet.

Austin Hill

You really can’t ask for a much better start than what Austin Hill has delivered this year. Hill got the season off to a winning start in Daytona before going out and making it back-to-back wins in Atlanta. While he has not won since, he has finished 4th in the last 2 races, so this is certainly a driver who is at the top of his game. The question now is whether that form can carry over into a road race. He did not have a great run in this race last season, but he also finished 2nd the year prior, so he cannot be counted out.

Justin Allgaier

We always expect to see Allgaier up among the leaders, but he is not off to a very good start to the 2024 season. He has cracked the top 10 twice through the opening 4 races, but 8th is hos best finish to this point in the season. That said, he did finish 5th in this race in 2023, but the majority of the wins in his illustrious career have come on oval tracks. I might be tempted to take Allgaier for a top 5 finish this weekend, but a win seems like a bit of a risk.

2023 Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250 Odds

After the NASCAR Craftsman XPEL 225 at the Circuit of Americas on Saturday, some drivers will step out of their trucks and then step into traditional stock cars for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250. Cup Series driver AJ Almendinger is a +250 chalk. William Byron, one of Hendrick’s top drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, is second choice at +300 followed by Ty Gibbs in third choice at +500. Did Byron, Gibbs, or Almendinger make the picks list? Check out auto racing odds, analysis, and free picks for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250.

Let’s take a look at the NASCAR lines for the Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250 plus racing picks likely to be in the hunt this weekend.

2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250 Picks

Top Betting Pick: William Byron

Odds: William Byron +300
Truck #, Team: No. 24 | Hendrick Motorsports
2022 Position: 6th

Although Byron didn’t race in this last year, he’s driving so well on the NASCAR Cup Series that it’s impossible not to make him the top pick.

Don’t get it wrong. Beating Allmendinger won’t be easy. But if there is a driver who can get it done, it’s Byron.

William suffered an accident in Atlanta, which is why he finished 32nd. In the two races before the event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, William dominated, winning both at Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The top prize is the Cup Series event on Sunday. That doesn’t mean William’s going to mail it in on Saturday. Expect Byron to try to go for the Xfinity-Cup Series double this weekend.

Second Betting Pick: AJ Allmendinger

Odds: AJ Allmendinger +250
Truck #, Team: No. 16 | Kaulig Racing
2022 Position: 42nd

Last year’s winner is a decent play to take home the trophy this season. In fact, if you don’t think Byron gets to the top odds choice, then backing Allmendinger makes sense.

AJ knows how to get it done at Circuit of Americas. He’ll put in a terrific race. So we shouldn’t be surprised if the morning line favorite crosses the finishes line first. If you like Allmendinger, by all means back him.

Third Betting Pick: Cole Custer

Odds: Cole Custer +900
Truck #, Team: No. 00 | Stewart-Haas Racing
2022 Position: 25th

In last week’s Xfinity race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Cole Custer finished twelfth. He, no doubt, could improve upon the finish at the Circuit of Americas because Custer had a great run in 2022.

Cole crossed the finish line third behind Austin Hill and winner AJ Allmendinger. A similar performance could put Custer into the winner’s circle on Saturday.

Top Underdog Play: Sam Mayer

Odds: Sam Mayer +3000
Truck #, Team: No. 1 | JR Motorsports
2022 Position: 7th

Sam Mayer won Stage 2 at last year’s Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250. Mayer couldn’t keep it going during the third stage.

So at the end, Sam finished fifth. Still, a fifth place finish isn’t bad. No only that, but Mayer finished ninth in last week’s race at Atlanta. The racing odds make the top underdog more than playable.

2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250 Recap

There’s a reason Allmendinger is the overall chalk. AJ won this race last year. Austin Hill followed AJ in second place.

Third place went to Cole Custer. Noah Gragson finished fourth and Sam Mayer finished fifth. Ty Gibbs, one of this year’s favorites, finished fifteenth. Second choice in this year’s event William Byron didn’t race in this last year.
