Joe Burrow is very familiar with Louisiana. Burrow led the LSU Tigers to a National Championship three years ago. We’ll see if he can handle the raucous Saints fans in the Caesar’s Superdome on Sunday as Burrow’s Bengals take on the New Orleans Saints.
Both teams come into this matchup with 2-3 records. The Bengals are trying to keep up with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, while the Saints try to keep pace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.
We’re going to preview each team, and then we’ll give you our predictions for this key matchup so you can bet against their NFL Lines.
Burrow Returns to the Bayou | NFL Week 6 Betting Preview for Cincinnati Bengals at New Orleans
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals‘ offense just hasn’t clicked this season. The offensive line has been an issue once again this season. Joe Mixon hasn’t gotten going, and much of that could be the poor blocking up front. Many predicted that Joe Burrow would take another step this season, but he has yet to do that.
Ja’Marr Chase and Burrow haven’t had the chemistry that they had last season, Tee Higgins has been hurt, and Tyler Boyd hasn’t been used as much as he should be. If this offense gets going, it’ll be dangerous, but we’re not sure if or when that will happen.
The Bengals’ defense is the 7th-ranked defense in the league. Other than the lack of a pass rush, this defense has been one of the best in the league. They’re only giving up 17.5 points per game. If the defense continues to play well, it will make up for the lack of offensive production.
New Orleans Saints
Heading into this one, no one is for sure who will be under center for the Saints. Jameis Winston has been injured, and Andy Dalton has stepped in and done a nice job.
The Saints haven’t had much of a running game this season. Alvin Kamara has been hurt for a portion of the season, so that hasn’t helped. The offensive line has also been a mess, which has been a big issue as well. Many of the Saints’ top receivers are injured, so we’re not sure who Dalton or Winston will be throwing to on Sunday.
Over the past few seasons, the Saints’ defense has been one of the best in the league. That isn’t the case this season. New Orleans is one of the weaker defenses in the league.
Between a lack of pass rush and a weak secondary unit, the Saints have had troubles stopping teams from scoring. We’ll see if they can give Burrow and company issues on Sunday.
Prediction
The Cincinnati Bengals are 1.5-point road favorites. While the oddsmakers may think that the Bengals are just the better team, they’re also probably taking the Saints’ quarterback questions into account.
The Saints also have a lot of injury issues right now, so that plays a role as well. The Superdome is usually a huge home-field advantage, but it hasn’t been much of an advantage this season.
In looking at the numbers, they favor the Bengals. Cincinnati is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight road games. They’re also 11-2 against the spread in their last 13.
These numbers help us to justify our Cincinnati pick. We think they’re ready to break out, and they’re a better team than the Saints. The Bengals win by a touchdown.
