What a week it has been for both the Chicago Bears and the Miami Dolphins. Chicago started the trade deadline frenzy by trading defensive end Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears then shipped star linebacker Roquan Smith to Baltimore. They ended the trading period by acquiring wide receiver Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Miami Dolphins were also very active at the trade deadline. Miami used draft capital acquired from San Francisco when they traded up to take Trey Lance to acquire defensive end Bradley Chubb from the Broncos.
Miami also brought in running back Jeff Wilson, Jr. from the 49ers. Wilson is very familiar with Mike McDaniel’s offensive system. The Lance deal has now brought Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, and Chubb to the Dolphins.
The two teams who will have some new pieces will meet up in the Windy City on Sunday, as the Bears will host the Dolphins. We’ll preview both teams and then give you our NFL Betting prediction for this one.
Can the Miami Dolphins Handle Their Trip to the Windy City?
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are going all out to win this season. First, they traded for Hill, and now they added Chubb to their defense. Offensively, when Tua Tagovailoa is healthy, this is one of the best offenses in the league.
Teams have to figure out how to stop both Waddle and Hill. Combine them with the running efforts of Raheem Mostert, and now add Wilson to the mix, and you have a very potent offense.
Miami’s defense has been an issue this season. Numerous injuries, especially to the secondary, have really hurt this unit.
They do a nice job of stopping the run, but the passing defense is one of the worst in the league, as they have already given up over 2000 yards in the air. Fortunately for the Dolphins, Chicago has shown that they won’t throw the ball a lot, but that could change on Sunday.
Chicago Bears
Over the course of this season, we’ve seen Justin Fields get better and better each week. The Bears are now utilizing his legs more and are making him much more of a dual threat. Now that they’ve added Claypool to the mix, we’ll see if the Bears will start letting Fields throw the ball more.
As for the defense, they lost their best player when Smith was traded. The Bears already struggled stopping the run, as only the Houston Texans have given up more yards on the ground than the Bears.
McDaniel comes from the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, and Shanahan prioritizes the run. We should see a lot of running from Mostert on Sunday.
On the flip side, the Bears have one of the best secondaries in the league. We’ll see if this young group can slow down Hill and Waddle. If so, they will be able to make things difficult for the Dolphins.
Prediction
Miami is a road favorite in this one. They’re favored by 4.5-points. The weather could be a factor, as the forecast says there could be wind and rain.
Even if they can’t throw the ball well, the Dolphins should be able to run the ball against the Bears. We have the Dolphins winning 28-20, thus covering the spread.
