Believe it or not, the New York Giants are 5-1 and are one of the top teams in the NFC. Even without viable wide receivers, an injured quarterback, and a no-name defense, the Giants have won three straight games heading into their weekend clash in Jacksonville with the Jaguars. While the Giants are riding high, the Jaguars are heading in the opposite direction. They had a great start to the season, but have since lost three straight, and they’re now sitting at 2-4 after last weekend’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Let’s take a look at both of the teams, and then we’ll give you our NFL Betting prediction for this one.
NFL Betting Preview for NY Giants at Jacksonville | Can the New York Giants Continue Winning?
Jacksonville Jaguars
After last year’s disaster with Urban Meyer, the Jaguars needed a fresh start. They hired renowned quarterback guru, and former Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson to lead the way. Early on in the season, it looked like Pederson had worked his magic with last year’s first overall draft selection Trevor Lawrence. However, Lawrence has struggled over the past couple of weeks, and hasn’t gotten much done.
Lawrence does have a nice supporting cast. In the backfield, he has James Robinson and Travis Etienne Jr.. The Jaguars signed free agent wide receiver Christian Kirk to a lucrative deal, and so far, he has lived up to his high salary. Zay Jones, Marvin Jones Jr., and Even Engram round out the receiving corps.
As for the defensive side of the ball, Jacksonville has inserted some young pieces into an evolving defense. This is one of the better defenses in the AFC, as they’ve only given up 114 points on the season.
New York Giants
How this team is 5-1, we’ll never know. With numerous injuries to their wide receivers, Daniel Jones having a bum ankle, and Saquon Barkley being banged up, this team has still found a way to win five out of six games. Barkley has been a huge reason why they’ve won games. Coming off of two injury-riddled seasons, Barkley has been great this season.
Another key to their success has been new head coach Brian Daboll. Daboll is credited with the development of many good quarterbacks, including Josh Allen in Buffalo. He has brought confidence to New York, and has done some great things with limited options in the Giants offense. We also can’t forget to credit the offensive line. They have done a very good job of blocking for Jones and opening up holes for Barkley.
Defensively, the Giants have allowed the fifth-fewest points among all NFC teams. They have found a way to stop Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson in consecutive weeks, so we give them a lot of credit as well. If they can stop those two, they should be able to handle Lawrence.
Prediction
It’s hard to believe that the oddsmakers have made the Jacksonville Jaguars a three-point favorite in this one. Maybe they think that this is the weekend that the Giants magical run comes to an end. Well, we don’t think that way, and we have the Giants winning a low-scoring game by a field goal.
