One team is headed for the playoffs, while the other team is headed for the top of the draft. We’re talking about the Los Angeles Chargers, who are on track to be an AFC Playoff team, and the New York Giants, who at 4-8 are going to have one of the top picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. These two will meet at the home of this season’s Super Bowl, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, as the Chargers will host the Giants. It’s time to take a look at both teams so you can get ready to make your bets against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for New York Giants at LA
Los Angeles Chargers Analysis
At 7-5 the Chargers are in possession of the #6 seed in the AFC Playoff race. They’re also still in the hunt for the top spot in the AFC West as they are just one game behind the division-leading Kansas City Chiefs. Unless the bottom falls out, the Chargers should be in line to earn a playoff spot.
With a high-powered offense led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers are looking to solidify their playoff spot. With Austin Ekeler, the Chargers have one of the most versatile running backs in the league. Wide receiver Keenan Allen was placed on the COVID list this week, so we’re not sure of his availability. If he can’t go, look for Mike Williams to get even more targets than usual. And that’s only if Williams is available, as he was a close contact of Allen’s.
While the Chargers’ defense hasn’t been anything to write home about this season, they should be prepped and ready for the anemic Giants offense. We’ll see if they can create some turnovers and help their offense out.
New York Giants Analysis
As for the New York Giants, things haven’t seemed to go their way this season. Saquon Barkley has missed much of the season with various injuries, and even when he has played, he hasn’t been very effective. Quarterback Daniel Jones has also missed numerous games due to injury. With a battered offensive line, numerous receivers out, and a generally ineffective offense, it has been a dismal year for the Giants. And we’ve yet to mention that backup quarterback Mike Glennon will be under center for the Giants. Glennon wasn’t good last week, and in looking at his career stats, it doesn’t look like things will get any better for him this week.
Prediction
In looking at some of the betting numbers for this one, the Los Angeles Chargers are 10-point favorites to beat the New York Giants. Even though this is a home game for the Chargers, this could turn out to be a pro-Giants crowd, as there will be plenty of New York fans at SoFi Stadium. We’ll see if the crowd can give the Giants some extra pep.
The numbers tend to trend in favor of the Giants in this one. They are 21-8 against the spread in their last 29 road games. They’re also 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 games as a road underdog. All the while, the Chargers haven’t been good at home, as they’re 18-40-1 against the spread in their last 59 home games.
Even though the numbers don’t give us reason to pick the Chargers, we think that they’ll win this one by a score of 34-17, covering the 10-point spread in the process.
