When a team gets in the habit of winning championships and building a dynasty, it gets to a point where you always just expect them to win. The good times always come to an end, though, as they did for the New England Patriots when Tom Brady jumped ship and moved to Tampa Bay. While he won another Super Bowl in his first season with his new team, the Patriots missed out on the playoffs in the same season. Picking up Mac Jones in the draft was seen as something of a risk by fans and the media, but it proved to be a good move, as Jones led his team to 10 wins and a playoff berth in his rookie season. The question now is whether he can avoid a sophomore slump and perhaps even take another step forward. This team is likely to go as he does, so let’s take a look at the Patriots season to get an idea of how to bet on their NFL Lines.
New England Patriots 2022 Season NFL Betting Guide to Help You Wager On Their Odds
Patriots Win Total 2022
Despite hitting double-digits in wins last season, the bookies have the Patriots win total set at 8 ½ for the coming season. Some of that may be down to a draft that was considered to be underwhelming to a lot of folks, as well as perhaps some doubts about Mac Jones in his second season. I think Jones will be just fine, but it is also fair to suggest that the AFC East might be a bit tougher this season, with the Dolphins going out and landing themselves some weapons. With all of that said, I still think that the Patriots can match what they did last year, which would mean going over the 8 ½ game win total. I’m not 100% confident with this, but I do think the wager is worth the risk.
Division and Conference Odds
Once Brady moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we saw a long-awaited shift in the balance of power in the AFC East. After a slow start to his career, the light went on for Josh Allen, who is now arguably one of the best QBs in the league. The Bills don’t look set to take a backward step anytime soon, making it tough for the Patriots to get back on top in the East. The Bills are the clear favorites, while the bookies also have the Dolphins slightly ahead of New England on the board. As it stands now, the Patriots are at +430 to win the division, while the Dolphins are +410 and the Bills are -206.
I would not be putting money on New England to win the division, although I do think they have a shot at getting one of the Wild Card spots. After that, who knows, as the playoffs are unpredictable. After all, not too many people picked the Bengals to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl last season. The Patriots are definitely a longshot to do that, sitting at +2000 to win the conference.
Super Bowl Odds
Like we said, getting into the playoffs is the goal, as you just never know what might happen. That said, the AFC looks stronger this year than it did last season, so winning the conference and then the Super Bowl is going to be a tough slog. The Patriots are listed at +3900 to win it all, so fair to suggest that they are a longshot.
