SoFi Stadium is the home of two NFL teams. Both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams call SoFi their home. The two “home” teams will square off in their home stadium on Sunday as the Chargers will take on the Rams. The Chargers have already clinched a playoff spot, so we’re not sure what we’ll see out of them. Unfortunately for the Rams, they’re just playing out the rest of the season, as they won’t be defending their Super Bowl title.
Let’s now take a look at each of the teams, and then we’ll give you our NFL Betting prediction for the battle of Los Angeles.
A Showdown at SoFi Stadium | NFL Week 17 Betting Preview for Rams versus Chargers
Los Angeles Rams
This is going to be a season to forget for the Rams. Coming off of a Super Bowl title, the Rams were expected to be a playoff team again this season. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen. Between injuries, free-agent departures, retirements, and poor play, the Rams have not shot at making the playoffs.
Matthew Stafford was never fully healthy this season, and he is now out for the season. Cooper Kupp is also out for the season after having ankle surgery. With a limited group of receivers, offensive line issues, and a lack of a running game, the Rams offense has never gotten things going. Just a few weeks ago, the Rams picked up the recently released Baker Mayfield to lead the team for the rest of the season. He has actually injected some life into the Rams offense.
Defensively, the Rams have also struggled. With Von Miller leaving for Buffalo, Jalen Ramsey not playing well, Aaron Donald missing time with injuries, and a lack of good linebackers, the Rams defense hasn’t been what they were expected to be.
Los Angeles Chargers
Once Justin Herbert got his full arsenal of weapons back, the Los Angeles Chargers took off. Austin Ekeler was having a good season, but he was the only reliable weapon that the Chargers had for a while. Once Keenan Allen and Mike Williams were both healthy, the offense really started to roll.
Defensively, the Chargers have been playing their best football over the past few weeks. Even though they still struggle to stop the run, they have given up just 34 points over the past three weeks. Last week, they held the Indianapolis Colts to just three points.
We’re not sure if Ekeler will play or not. Since the Chargers have already clinched a playoff spot, they can afford to rest some of the players that are fighting nagging injuries.
Prediction
The Chargers come into this one as 6.5-point favorites. They are obviously the better team, but it’s hard to get a good read on this game. If the Chargers choose to rest some of their starters, this could be a very close game, and the Rams could even come out with a victory. We think the Chargers will try their best to win this game. We think the Chargers will win the game, but we don’t think they’ll cover the spread in this one. The Chargers come out of this matchup with a three-point victory.
