Much was expected out of the New England Patriots in 2021. With a rookie starting quarterback, numerous players leaving, and the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins having better rosters, the Patriots were expected to be average at best. Let’s have a look at what lies ahead for the Patriots along with an early analysis and prediction for the 1st two games of the season so you can make your bets against the NFL Odds.
An Early Betting Outlook on the 2022 New England Patriots
Quick Look at Patriots’ Upcoming Season
Everyone learned not to underestimate Bill Belichick once again. The Patriots ran off seven straight wins and were in contention for the division title. However, they lost three of their last four and then were pummeled by the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs.
Fast forward to 2022, the Bills and Dolphins have made numerous roster upgrades, and the Patriots have been relatively quiet. The oddsmakers know that the Patriots are probably the third-best team in the division, but they can’t find it in themselves to give up on Belichick.
They have set the over/under win total at 8.5, so they think that there’s a shot that New England makes another playoff appearance.
After taking a look at their schedule, we’ve found a couple of Patriot games to bet on this season.
New England @ Miami – Week 1
In the early lines, the Dolphins are favored by 2.5 points. With the Dolphins having made tremendous improvements to their offensive line, acquiring Tyreek Hill to pair with Jaylen Waddle, and hiring a head coach who came from the Shanahan tree, much is expected from the Dolphins this season.
However, Belichick has shown a penchant for being able to frustrate young, inexperienced quarterbacks, and that is just what Tua Tagovailoa is. We’ll see if the Pats’ defense is able to frustrate the Dolphins’ offense or if Miami is truly ready to make a big jump.
On the flip side, the Dolphins could possibly have the best secondary in the league. We’re not sure if Jones and his no-name receiving corps will be able to gain yardage against this stout group.
We think this will be a very tight game, so pay close attention to the line on this one. If it gets larger than three points, we would take a chance on the Patriots.
New England @ Pittsburgh – Week 2
Speaking of inexperienced quarterbacks, Pittsburgh will trot one out in their Week 2 matchup with the Patriots. Either Mitchell Trubisky or rookie first-round Kenny Pickett will be under center for the Steelers.
This is what Belichick and the Patriots have made a living feasting on. We’re not sure if either quarterback will be ready for the prime time, but those are the two options in Pittsburgh right now.
Mac Jones will have a very tough defense to go up against, as Pittsburgh’s pass rush is one of the best in the league. TJ Watt could be living in the Patriots backfield, causing fits for Jones. We’ll have to see how good the Patriot running game is, and if they can run the ball to slow down the pass rush.
The early line has the Patriots favored by one point. We’re not sold on the Steelers this season, and even though the game will be at Pittsburgh, we think that New England has a great shot at winning this one.
