Olympics Gold Medals and Specials Update

Although there haven’t been huge surprises at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, sports betting fans know of at least two huge surprises.

First, with 9 days to go, the Paris Olympics end on August 11, the United States has only 9 gold medals.

To come close to the 41.5 pre-Olympic gold medal count, the U.S.

is going to have to pick up the pace big time.

China has a decent 12 gold medals while Great Britain, France, and Australia are also looking good to go over their gold medal totals.

Check out total medal count, Olympic odds, analysis, and updated picks for gold medals and specials at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Olympic Medal Count

  • USA 39: 9 gold, 16 silver, 3 bronze
  • France 28 : 8 gold, 11 silver, 9 bronze
  • China 26: 12 gold, 7 silver, 7 bronze
  • Great Britain 24: 8 gold, 8 silver, 8 bronze
  • Australia 19: 8 gold, 6 silver, 5 bronze
  • Japan 16: 8 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze

Most Medals Updated Odds

  • USA -20000
  • China +2500
  • Australia +12500
  • Japan +15000
  • Great Britain +20000
  • France +20000

The U.S. has a sizable lead over the teams that could come closest to challenging them for the top medal count, China, Australia, and Japan.

China must make up 13 total medals.

The thing about the Chinese is that they almost always pursue gold, which means as a nation they don’t win a lot of silver and bronze hardware.

Also, the U.S. is about to unleash Sha ’Carri Richardson, Trey Lyles, and the vaunted U.S. track and field squad.

If the Jamaicans don’t upset Lyles, Richardson, and their teammates, the United States should roll to gold, silver, and bronze.

The second choice remains China, which is too good in too many sports not win a few silver and bronze.

Again, most of what the Chinese will win from here are on out will be gold.

Most Medals Pick: United States
Most Medals Second Choice: China

Most Gold Medals Odds

  • USA -333
  • China +333
  • France +8000
  • Japan +15000
  • Great Britain +20000
  • Australia +20000
  • Netherlands +25000
  • Germany +25000

The U.S. is going to overtake the Chinese and win the most gold medals.

China is strong in almost every Olympic sport except track and field.

The United States owns track and field.

So unless Jamaica comes up big, which could happen, but may not if Lyles, especially, is at the top of his game, the United States takes the top gold medals home from Paris.

China will finish second.

Most Gold Medals Pick: United States
Most Gold Medals Second Pick: China

Most Gold Medals

USA

  • Over 40.5 -650
  • Under 40.5 +120

The opening gold medal total was 41.5. The total has fallen a full point.

Although the full point appears like a lot, in Olympic terms it’s a gold medal and a half a gold medal, Team USA eclipsing and winning 41 gold medals is asking way too much.

A few of the silvers the Americans won before August 2 had to have been golds for the U.S. to win 41. Again, the hook means a lot.

Even if Lyles, Richardson, and the other athletic stars do their jobs and win gold, the U.S. will be hard pressed to score 41 golds.

They were hard pressed to win 40 before the Olympics began.

So winning 41 is close to impossible.

Under offers an overlay payout.

Most Gold Medals Pick: Under 40.5

Australia

  • Over 13.5 -600
  • Under 13.5 +125

Australia is 6 gold medals away from going over.

The Aussies should have no trouble scoring 6 more gold medals because they’ve got strong competitors in enough events, and there are so many events we can barely keep count.

Go over.

Most Gold Medals Pick: Over 13.5

Great Britain

  • Over 16.5 -600
  • Under 16.5 -350

Great Britain must win 9 more gold medals to go over.

The odds on Great Britain going under means money has begun to switch from over to under.

Unlike Australia, Great Britain appear to have as many gold medal contending athletes in the next 9 days.

So going under 16.5 golds is the play.

Most Gold Medals Pick: Under 16.5

China and France Gold Medal Betting Update

China-Off

  • Over 34.5 -150
  • Under 34.5 +115

The bet is off because China has 12 gold medals with 9 days to go.

The Chinese should manage 35 gold medals considering the remaining events.

They won’t win as many gold as the Americans, but they will eclipse their total.

If you bet over 3.4.5, you should feel good about your chances.

France-Off

  • Over 23.5 -105
  • Under 23.5 -125

France could score enough gold medals to win 24, but it’s going to be difficult.

The bet before was to go over.

But right now, under 23.5 looks like the winning play.

If you took under 23.5, the slight favorite’s play based on payouts, you should cash.

Gold Medals and Specials with MyBookie

The 2024 Paris Olympics officially lights the torch on Friday, July 26.

From July 26 through August 11, the world will watch as mostly amateur athletes battle for Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medals.

As is always the case, the United States and China are the favorites to win the most overall medals as well as the most gold medals.

Check out Olympic medal odds, analysis, and a predictions in our gold medal and specials blog.

Which Country Will Have the Most Gold Medals at the End

Most Medals and Odds

USA -2500
China +900
Japan +5000
Great Britain +5000
France +8000
Italy +20000
Canada +30000
Netherlands +35000
New Zealand +50000
Hungary +50000
Cuba +50000
Brazil +50000
South Korea +100000

When it comes to winning the most medals, it’s going to be difficult to beat the United States.

The -2500 chalk has medal competitors in every sport save for arctic swimming, Archery, Badminton, Table Tennis, Field Hockey, Rugby 7, and possibly volleyball, although the U.S.

Women’s Volleyball Team could score a bronze at this year’s games.

In some sports, the U.S. should flat out dominate.

Led by Simone Biles, Team USA should win 7 medals in Gymnastics.

The Swimming team projects to win 31 total medals while the Americans will clean up, like they always do, in track and field.

So if the United States reaches their projected 130 total medals won, no other team will be close.

China should finish second.

The odds disparity between the Americans and China is telling.

The Chinese are at +900 odds, which makes them a distant second.

The most medals for any sport are handed out for swimming and track and field.

The United States dominates both of those sports with the Jamaicans a close second in track and field.

So until the Chinese catch up in athletics and in the pool, Team USA will always win the most medals at every Olympics.

The Race is with USA vs China | That’s the Olympic Bet

China is up against it in the most gold medals category as well.

The United States should win the most golds of any nation.

The U.S. should win all five relay events in track and field.

The sprinters and hurdlers could produce 7 gold medals even if Noah Lyles loses to Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in the 100 meters.

Katie Ledecky is going to dominate the pool. Ledecky should win 3 gold medals, Ryan Murphy will win 2, and the U.S. will win all swimming relays.

Again, because so many gold medals are awarded in swimming and athletics, the United States has a huge advantage in the gold medal category over the Chinese.

Give the Americans the most gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Most Gold Medals Pick: USA
Most Gold Medals Second Pick: China

Writer’s Picks on Most Gold Medals

USA

Over 41.5 -115
Under 41.5 -115

The hook is going to be meaningful so are sports like basketball and soccer.

If the USA Women’s Soccer Team takes home gold, a possibility, the United States might approach 41.

There’s a question as to whether the U.S. can win the gold in Men’s Basketball.

On paper, the United States has more star NBA players, but teams like Canada, Germany, and Serbia appear more cohesive.

The United States struggles versus South Sudan the other night makes us pause before going over.

If the U.S. doesn’t win gold in men’s hoops, they must make up the gold medal.

It won’t happen in weightlifting where the ceiling for Olivia Reese, Mary Lappen, and Hampton Morris appears to be silver or bronze.

Reese could score gold, but her weight class is deep with contenders.

The United States will win medals in wrestling but few of those medals will be gold.

Any slip up in track and field, the Jamaicans are particularly strong at this year’s Olympics, should lead to under 41.5

Most Gold Medals Pick: Under 41.5

China

Over 34.5 -150
Under 34.5 +115

The hook will be impactful when it comes to China’s gold medal count.

The Chinese should win 34 gold medals.

That’s the prediction. 11 year old skateboarding phenom Zheng Haohao is a lock to score gold.

So will table tennis star Sun Yingsha and the Chinese, although they struggle in the pool, will win most of the diving gold medals.

Like the U.S., though, the Chinese can’t slip up.

Any slip up in any sport in which they’re favored to win gold makes reaching 34, much less 35, tough.

The +115 payout makes under 34.5 a great play on China’s gold medal count.

Most Gold Medals Pick: Under 34.5

France

Over 23.5 -105
Under 23.5 -125

The home team has plenty of talented sports stars and should do well in the gold medal count.

The prediction is 27, which makes the -105 payout on France to win at least 24 gold medals a nice play.

Because this year’s Olympics is in Paris, the French have spent a ton of money preparing their athletes.

France should produce their best Olympic campaign in the past 124 years, which means eclipsing the gold total is a real possibility.

Most Gold Medals Pick: Over 23.5

Olympic Gold Medal Winning Predictions

Previous Betting News

It’s only a few days before the start of the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, but before we get to the opening ceremonies, it’s always fun to look at which countries might dominate in the medal standings. We will have a number of different online betting options available throughout the course of the Games, but for now, let’s take a look at the betting odds for the gold medal count. There are some obvious favorites in here, as it’s usually the same 3 or 4 countries who land atop the gold medal charts. For the purposes of this piece, we will look at the 4 countries who we think will have the best shot of coming away with the most gold medals.

In Depth Analysis On The Olympic Gold Medal Winning Predictions

USA (-600)

The United States are the favorites to bring home the most golds, and for very good reason. Not only have the US topped the medal count in 4 of the last 5 Olympic Games, they have also won the most golds the same number of times. You look down the list of events and you see a good many where the US would be expected to win. Basketball looks like a lock, as do many of the swimming and track & field events. It would be an upset of the highest order of they didn’t win this, although I do think they will fall a little UNDER the 42.5 gold medals line on offer here at MyBookie.ag.

China (+300)

Quite possibly the only genuine threat to the USA as far as gold medals go. The only time that China beat the US in the last 5 Olympics was when they were held at home in Beijing. You always expect to see the home country get a little bit of a medal boost when they host, and since China are routinely near the top of the medal haul standings, it really wasn’t a huge surprise to see them take that one.

Great Britain (+2000)

Great Britain performed very well in 2012 when the Olympics were held in London, and they will have many of their best athletes returning to action in Rio. If they can get close to the 29 golds that they picked up 4 years ago, they are going to find themselves near to top of the medal standings when the closing ceremonies come around.

Russia (+4800)

The Russians are generally always in or around the top 3 in the medal count at each Olympics, but they may be in a little trouble in Rio. The Russians are in the midst of a doping scandal at the moment, and while a blanket ban has not been laid down by the IOC, you can bet that the Russians are going to be missing a number of their top athletes. That is going to have an effect on their medal count, as well as on the other nations competing, as they may be able to snatch up the gold medals that the Russians would normally have won.

2020 Olympics Betting Update: Japan is Still in A State of Emergency

Previous Betting News

The closer we get to the start of the 2020 Olympics in 2021, the more questions we seem to have to answer. Check out the latest info on the Summer Olympic Games in Japan starting on July 23. Let’s get right to it so you can continue planning your bets against their Olympics odds.

2020 Olympics Betting News & Rumors | June 21st Update

2020 Olympics in 2021

When: July 23 – August 8

Coronavirus will be the story at the 2021 Olympics

As of June 1, Japan remains in a state of emergency due to COVID-19. Not only that, but a majority of Japanese would prefer if the nation canceled the Olympics.

The reason? The Rising Sun has one of the lowest vaccination rates, which sort of makes sense because the rate of infection in Japan is less than in almost every other country on the planet.

But that’s the double-edged sword. Japanese haven’t got vaccinated in large numbers against the coronavirus due to low rates of infection. In about a month, though, athletes from all over the world who have been exposed to COVID-19 will descend upon Japan.

What the Japanese are worried about, heck, what the world is worried about is the rest of the world bringing coronavirus to the Japanese, not the Japanese infecting athletes. That’s a problem.

The worry wouldn’t hold as much weight if a Ugandan Olympic Athlete hadn’t already tested positive for the virus. Right now, things don’t look great. It could get worse.

Biden Administration wary of Olympics in Japan

Although Japan’s rate of infection is lower than most nation’s, it does appear to be on the rise, which is why the Biden Administration warned U.S. citizens from traveling to Japan for the 2020 Olympics.

In a statement, the Center for Disease Control said, “Travelers should avoid all travel to Japan. Because of the current situation in Japan, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to Japan.”

The current travel level is 4. Level 3 means reconsider travel. Level 4 means do not travel.

So far, the vaccines have proven to be effective against COVID-19 variants. But, again, just because a vaccinated person doesn’t feel sick, it doesn’t mean that person doesn’t carry the coronavirus or one of its variants.

Richardson dominates 100 meters, Crouser Breaks shot put record

Right now, the U.S. Government has kept athletes in limbo. Japan has said they won’t cancel the 2020 Olympics.

Even though the Biden Administration has yet to give U.S. athletes their okay to compete in the Olympics, U.S. athletes are preparing as if the games will happen.

At the U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon, Ryan Crouser broke the shot put world record, swimmer Ryan Lochte failed to qualify, and sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson won the 100-meter final with a time of 10.86.

American athletes are ready. Right now, the jury is out on if Japan is ready, or if the Biden Administration will give U.S. Athletes their blessing to travel.
