Writer’s Olympic Handball Expert Picks for Gold

Gold: Denmark -114

Run, don’t walk, to bet the Danes to win gold.

Denmark had a tough time of it versus Egypt in their second match, only beating the Egyptians by 3 in a 30-27 match.

But in their first game, the Danes rolled, taking it to the gold medal pre-tournament favorite and defending Olympic Champion France.

Denmark rolled to a 37-29 victory.

Goalie Niklas Jacobsen was stunning in goal.

Jacobsen kept denying the French in an awe-inspiring.

The slight letdown versus the Egyptians had to be expected.

Denmark, the 2016 gold medalist, again wears gold.

Silver: Norway +1000

France remains second choice but after two matches, the home team has two losses.

France still has a chance to move to the second round.

Still, two losses isn’t good, which is why Norway gets the nod to win silver.

The Norwegians blasted Argentina 36-31 in their first match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Then in their second match, Norway beat France 27-22.

The win margins, 5 in both matches, suggests Norway has the ability to pull away when required.

24 year old Alexander Blonz scored 7 goals against the French.

If Blonz continues his surge, who knows? Maybe, the Norwegians upset Denmark along their way to gold.

Bronze: Sweden +700

In their first match at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sweden lost to Germany.

The Swedes bounced back in their second match, beating Spain 29-26.

There was a difference from the loss to Germany and the win against Spain.

Hampus Wanne paced Sweden with 8 goals in the loss to the Germans.

But in the win versus Spain, three different Swedes scored 5 goals.

If Sweden can spread around the goal scoring like they did against the Spanish, they can win the tournament.

Although they’re the pick to win bronze, give Sweden a decent shot to take home the gold.

Top Upset Play: Germany +1200

The Germans aren’t messing around.

On July 27, Germany upset Sweden 30-27.

Then in their follow up match, the Germans destroyed Japan 37-26.

In both matches, Germany unleashed a handball star in 22 year old Renars Uscins.

The Latvian born Uscins calls Germany home.

He’s been fantastic pacing the Germans in both wins with 8 goals versus top squad Sweden and 7 versus Japan.

As long as Uscins continues to shine, Germany will outplay their odds.

If you’re looking to back an underdog with a big shot, give Germany a look to get it done.

Olympic Handball Expert Picks

It’s not going to be a long wait for the 2024 Paris v to get going, and the betting odds are starting to come out quickly.

Many sports had to have a long qualifying stage in order to set the actual field, but most of that action is now complete.

Track and field, swimming, and basketball tend to dominate the action and headlines at the Summer Olympics, but there are other sports that are popular as well.

Handball is one of the sports, and the top teams in the world are going to be competing in Paris.

Now that the teams have been set up and groups have been chosen, it’s time to make some betting predictions on what will happen in this sport.

Here is a look at the odds to win both men’s and women’s handball gold, and a betting pick for each.

Men’s Handball Winner

There aren’t going to be many events in which the host country of France excels at the Summer Olympics, but men’s handball could be one of them.

The betting odds are out for this event and France is the favorite at +156 to come away with the gold medal.

Not only do these odds make France the betting favorite, but it also puts a ton of pressure on that team to deliver in front of the home crowd.

There will be some great competition though as Denmark isn’t too far behind as they have odds set at +167 to come away with the gold medal.

Betting odds for this event do fall off in a big way after this, but that doesn’t mean that you can just ignore the other countries.

Everyone always seems to rise to the occasion at the Olympic games and there will be plenty of other countries in the mix.

You can see that you can really cash in by backing another country, but that’s not where your focus should be.

France is the betting favorite for a reason, and that is the team that will walk away with gold in the men’s handball competition.

Women’s Handball Winner

Not only is the men’s handball team from France the betting favorite to win gold, but that is also the case when checking out the women’s side of things.

The women from France have betting odds set at +100 to come away with the gold, but things are a bit tighter at the top.

Norway is another country that looks poised to come away with a gold medal in these games, and the women from that country are sitting at +165 to make that happen.

Denmark is really the only other country worth considering as they have odds set at +600 to win the gold medal.

There are some other countries to keep an eye on when it comes to winning a bronze medal, but there is no doubt who the top two teams are.

Look for there to be a slight upset in this event though as going with Norway at +165 will be the bet to make.

Previous Betting News

The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics will feature a plethora of sporting events for us to watch and bet on. While some sports at the Olympics are widely recognizable and followed by all countries in the world, there are a few that are popular only in few countries.

One of the sports that fall into the latter category is Handball, which has not gained much traction outside of Europe and northern parts of Africa. That, however, certainly has its advantages since bookmakers are – like most of the world’s population – fairly unfamiliar with the sport.

In today’s betting guide, we take a look at Handball at the Olympics and provide you with all the tips and tricks to help you with your betting endeavor. Here is all you need to know about Handball betting, with all the information you’ll ever need to place smart bets on Olympics Betting Odds.

Information is King

With more popular sports such as football, soccer, and basketball, there’s plenty of information available online. For example, you’ll easily spot whether a player is injured, if a team is in financial issues, or whether there are any disagreements between the players and coaches.

All that is very useful when picking out the best bet; however, if the information is easily accessible for you, so it is for everyone else. This serves as a double-edged sword since odds will quickly shift after the news are made public, effectively removing any value a bet would offer to you.

Things change with less popular sports, where team news are not as publicly available. Still, several avenues offer you access to that information – namely, social media and forums.

Having access to both will give you a significant edge over other punters, who might be late to find out a particular player is injured or anything else that might help/harm the team’s chance of success.

Getting your hands on the information before it gets put in a newspaper will offer you an excellent opportunity to find value in betting odds, and approaching your betting this way will guarantee you success in the long run.

Defense Wins Games

The famous Alex Ferguson’s quite “Attack wins you games, defense wins you titles” can be used in almost all team sports, but it’s far more evident in Handball. The best teams in the world have exceptional defenses, and even those teams who aren’t as successful put a lot of work into making their backline as sturdy as possible.

Many international matches between two nations are often very close, which primarily has to do with teams putting a lot more thought into defending their goal than scoring. That’s a crucial piece of information for those betting on handicaps.

Even at the Olympic games, there will be games where one team is significantly better than the other; however, that rarely means that the final score will be far apart. It’s often advisable to look for high plus handicaps.

Most of the time, the favored teams like to loosen up as they look to get ahead early, which leaves serious openings in the defensive lines. Therefore, the weaker teams have a much better chance of scoring than they would against an equally matched team.

However, the tip of betting on plus handicaps shouldn’t be followed blindly since you won’t always find value in betting on them. Having said that, it’s definitely worth keeping it in mind and take a shot with the outsider with a goal handicap when the opportunity arises.
