The end of the 2024 Olympic Games is now very much in sight, with the closing ceremony set for this coming Sunday.

Before we get to that point, though, there are still plenty of medals waiting to be won.

 

My Analysis

With the end so close, it makes sense that all the major tournaments are getting close to the final games.

Men’s volleyball will continue on Wednesday with the semi-final games. There seems to be very little separating the 4 remaining teams, so we can probably expect a couple of great matchups that are going to be fun to watch and wager on.

Let’s take a look at how all 4 teams got to this point, after which we will make a betting prediction for both games.

Poland vs United States

Wednesday, 7 August, 10:00 AM ET | This game looks set to be a great one, as both teams have looked very good on their way to the final four. Poland quickly secured their spot in the knockout round with a pair of wins to start the group stage, beating Egypt 3-0 and Brazil 3-2.

They ran into a bit of a buzz saw in their third game, which ended in a 3-1 loss to Italy, who are the favorites to win gold. They made things look pretty easy in a 3-1 win over Slovenia in the quarterfinal.

The United States has made it to this point in the tournament without dropping a game, but it has been a struggle at times.

They opened things up with a comfortable 3-0 win over Argentina, but they then had to scrap hard to get past Germany in 5 sets.

They closed out the group stage with a 3-1 win over Japan, which gave them a tough quarterfinal matchup against Brazil, which the US won by a score of 3-1.

This is a matchup that could go either way, and I would be stunned to see either team win in straight sets.

I have a feeling this might go the distance, and I am taking the US to get the victory.

Italy vs France

Thursday, 8 August, 14:00 AM ET | Coming into the semi-final games, it is the Italians who are considered the favorites to win the gold medal.

They have certainly looked to be the part right from the start. They opened the group stage with a 3-1 win over Brazil, which they followed up with a dominating 3-0 win over Egypt.

Not only that, but they closed out the group stage with a 3-1 win over Poland, landing in top of the group in the process.

Likewise, they might to fight hard in the quarterfinals, eventually beating Japan 3-2.

It has been a much tougher road for France, as the host nation has been pushed to the limit more than once.

They needed all 5 sets to beat Serbia 3-2 in the opening game of the group stage before getting a comfortable 3-0 win over Canada.

They went the full 5 sets in their final group game against Slovenia, coming out on the losing end in that one. Furthermore, they once again had to go 5 sets in the quarterfinal, winning 3-2 over Germany.

The host nation is certainly going to put up a tough fight in this one, but I think they will come up short against the favorites.
