Olympic Volleyball Odds: Women’s Quarterfinals Expert Analysis and Predictions

We are now in the final full week of action at the Olympic Games in Paris, France, with the battle for medals coming down to the wire in several different events.

We are going to do our best to cover as many of the remaining sports as we can, starting with volleyball, which is always fun to watch.

My Analysis

The men are playing their quarterfinal games as I write this piece, with the women playing their quarterfinal games on Tuesday.

Those are the 4 games that we are going to focus on here. Which 4 teams are going to advance on Olympic women’s volleyball and get ever closer to that elusive gold medal? Let’s take a look.

China vs Turkiye

While there looks to be an obvious favorite in this matchup, I think we might still see a bit of a battle. China went through the Preliminary Round by winning all 3 games, although they had a tough one against the US, which went 5 sets, in that mix.

They will face a Turkiye team that proved to be much more resilient than expected, winning 2 of their 3 group stage games before being swept aside by Italy in the final game.

I do like China to win this one, but it may not be a sweep.

Brazil vs Dominican Republic

Brazil was totally dominant in the group stage, winning all games without giving up a single set.

This is a team that looks to be rolling right now, with some considering it the team to beat at this point.

The Dominican Republic lost their opening 2 games and needed a win in their final group stage to move on, which they got with a 3-1 victory over the Netherlands.

That was enough to nab one of the 3rd place finisher spots, but I think that this will be the end of their Olympic journey.

United States vs Poland

This is perhaps the best matchup in the quarterfinal stage, with both teams following a very similar path to the knockout phase.

The United States opened with a loss to China, but they did manage to pick up a point in that 3-2 loss. They then needed 4 sets to beat Serbia before cruising in their final game of the group stage.

Poland made it look easy in their opening 2 games of the group stage, winning both by a combined score of 6-1. They then ran into a juggernaut in Brazil, losing that one in straight sets.

I think we are going to see a close one here, but I like the US to prevail.

Italy vs Serbia

You could easily make an argument for both of these teams to win a medal, but one of them will be out after this game.

Italy made it through the group stage by winning all 3 games and only dropping a single set in the process. Serbia found themselves in a very tough group.

They swept France in the opener before losing in 5 sets to the US, which was enough to get them into one of the best 3rd place finisher spots despite losing to China in their final game.

I am leaning toward Italy here.
